Your Laugh for Today: SURPRISE! A Happy Ending!
EDIT: Well, some people apparently have the integrity to admit when they are wrong. Please see post #39. I won't share the personal email he sent me, but it was genuine. Wow...just wow. And you think some of the people posting here are a little off-kilter...check out this email I just received in my Gibson account. It was not a personal email, but a mass-broadcast email with a return email address, and is a matter of public record. He wanted to get this out to as many people as possible, so I'm glad to help! You might want to send a friendly email to CharlesOfHigherCall@comcast.net and let him know that no one at Cakewalk is forcing anyone to make monthly payments, and you can indeed purchase the software fully. I sent him a note, but he'll never believe me due to my being part of Cakewalk's evil corporate empire that's dedicated solely to ripping off artists. Now, excuse me while I jump into my Jaguar; I need to board my private jet for the usual weekend trip to my mansion on the Big Island. I think Trixie, Crystal, and Heather are already there...must not keep them waiting in the hot tub! SOFTWARE RIP-OFF For The Sake Of GREED.Lately the New Thing for Software Companies to do is to Force You To Make Monthly Payments instead of just purchasing the software fully at that time. My first notice of this was with Adobe and Microsoft and this means you are paying a Monthy Payment every month and it never stops, nor do you ever own your product..NOW Cakewalk is doing the same thing is is trying to say that they don't totally take it away, but leave you with an Le Version (barely software at all). IF YOU THINK THIS WILL NOT AFFECT YOU as a Non-Artists think again, for they will start doing this, and have, with all Software, so when you want to publish or do anything else with Software it will be a Monthly Charge just to do this. This means it can close down some businesses, as well for not being able to afford this. We all know, too, well that prices never just stay at a low price, but increase through the years. Most Artists are Exploited as it is and now here it is again where Artists may not be able to afford Software they need to be creative. Most Artists don't have this kind of money due to being exploited anyway. WHAT I WANT TO SEE HAPPEN is All Of You Send a Complaint to Adobe and Cakewalk protecting this abuse against Artists... If you don't you will find that Microsoft and other are doing the same thing and you will Lose the Right To Own Software. Don't we get enough Greed forced upon us? This is one we can stop. They will try to convince you that it is a great thing and you can take it anywhere you go, but the truth is it is another form of Greed and will Force You To Lose FREEDOMS you had before. Charles of "Higher Call" Music/Photography

Oh don't turn this into another conspiracy! Brother Charles is too smart (and nice of a guy) to deserve this tin foil hat! (BTW, a quick google search confirms they are not one and the same).

Thanks for the chuckle, Craig. But it's a little unsettling. I'd like to think that the social group I've chosen to hang out with is a little more, uh, sane.

Man, I don't neccesarily agree with the change but I understand it. It scares me that so many people can't grasp the concept. Even after it is explained several times. How do they figure out investments or cash flow or down payments etc.? I figure I must be obtuse about a lot of things as well.

People are people and believe what they believe. I was tuning in to our local school board meeting last night and during public comment a group of women used their limited time to explain how our students are being taught to hate America. They were sincere in their belief. Rocky

I remember that day I was FORCED to buy a DAW very well. It started out like any other trip to Guitar Center, but there was demo of Pro Audio 9 if I recall. And so I sat in because I wanted to upgrade from Tascam Portastudio 488 (which I still have). At the end of the demo it was asked who had a competitive product, and I raised my hand. Then I was asked WHAT DAW, to which I scrambled and came up with Cubase. I got a good price that day and have kept in cahoots with the bakers since then. Now, they FORCE me to upgrade ...with good deals!

Craig, maybe I'm missing something here but did you post an email someone sent to you personally in a public forum including their personal information? I think you are a good guy Craig and mean the best. But that's a little low especially since you are a representative for Gibson and Cakewalk. You usually take the higher road and think you should have done that this time. It doesn't seem very professional to post this persons email here, and also having a laugh at their expense.

Yes. You get updates for a year. Basically the same way things are now, where updates cease to be offered for versions that are no longer for sale. However, what they don't tell you in the membership info is that once that year is up, Cakewalk sends a 2,000V spike down your phone line that permanently destroys your computer and any software on it. They also cut the brake lines on your car, and sell any offspring you have into slavery.

Yes, you are missing something, but it was my mistake for not making it clear so I will go back and clarify in the first post. It was not a personal email. I was on a CC: list, and that is the return address for the list. It is a matter of public record. He wanted to disseminate it far and wide, so he should thank me for disseminating it further. And frankly, I have no sympathy for someone who not only is willing to mass-broadcast defamatory and unfounded statements, but so far has not replied to the email I sent him, nor sent a retraction. Maybe he's busy elsewhere. Or maybe he has no honor.

I think Dan has gotten back to the REAL heart of this and the main thing Cakewalk wants to do. Constant updates, fixes and new features not 5 months of updates then they vanish only to emerge with a new version some time in September. We have seen a thousand "let say you..." in the last few days. I have one. Lets say Cakewalk does what they say they will. This is a HUGE win for us!!! This is a "Tales of Two Cities" time period for Cakewalk personnel. I believe it will be lots more peaceful and cordial in less than a week. If this works and we get a more stable, faster evolving DAW it will draw new customers in from everywhere and that is a win for current customers and Cakewalk.

well, if there is one thing to say about sonygate it should have taught everyone that no email sent off into the aether is private. I guess Craig just beat Kim Jong-un to releasing to that embarrassing email. @
https://soundcloud.com/a-pleasure-dome http://www.bnoir-film.com/ there came forth little children out of the city, and mocked him, and said unto him, Go up, thou bald head; go up, thou bald head. 24 And he turned back, and looked on them, and cursed them in the name of the Lord. And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them.
