Your favorite musical pet?

Do you have a pet that  inspires you to make music? I'm wondering what I should get. I thought about a pet ferret, but I don't want this to be an ulterior motive. I don't want to use the pet just for selfish reasons. It should be pet love first and music second.

I'm afraid to get an elephant for fear all I'll do is write waltzes in 6/8 with tubas. A parrot might be distracting and a fish would not be involved enough.

First of all, I would like to say congratulations on a great thread topic.
I would agree on your elephant theory and a parrot may actually write a better song I disagree on the fish though - every guitarist needs a Tuna

I'm thinking about getting a gerbil with a wheel in his cage so I can hook a beater to the wheel and a small drum. That way he could give me beats when he runs on it. He would dictate my tempo. Idea? I could give him part of the royalties in gerbil food and fuzzy toys.

I tried having a Studio Panther, but it didn't work out.  There was this rumbling growl everytime I'd use a preset on an effect.  She'd drag her claws across the back of my neck whenever I used too much compression.  Sometimes, you could feel her eyes boring into your back as you worked feverishly to finish a mix.  You did not want to get it wrong.  Eventually, she got tired of waiting for me to get my act together.  I came down there one day and she was sitting in my chair, glaring at me and licking her lips.  She was working with V-Vocal at the time and I thought it best not to disturb her further.

By the way, never try to take a mouse from a Studio Panther.  I'm just sayin'...

"I've always wanted a pet rhinoceros. I don't know why. I do have a poodle but she's for juggling.  "

The horn would probably make a nice cable hanger if you could get him trained. A few wheelbarrows and shovel wouldn't hurt either. How do you juggle one poodle? I thought you needed two? I had two poodles an iguana and an albino koala bear going one time and then my vision started to blur. Things got weird.

"I like carpet in my studio. Does that count?"  I want to say yes but prolly not. Funny thing, one of my coworkers was mistaken for a pet the other day. While walking with another coworker and holding a banana someone shouted," Where did you get the pet monkey?" I know this was irrelevant but it came to mind. Not fair really to think that just because he was walking alongside a monkey that it was a pet.

UB I have heard that those panthers can hurt sometimes, usually when they kill you it was all in play accidentally.I want a pet but not the responsibility of a pet. I need somethng that cleans up after itself or never poos...geesh that seems to eliminate a lot of possibilities. Maybe I can accept some poo. The elephant is probably out of consideration for good now.

Mike-"Spider Monkeys and Sugar Gliders" Now theres a guy with real class. There's  a good reason NASA decided to use them.

I'm a animal lover so I couldn't have any pet in the studio because I would spend my time playing fetch with the dog or getting the cat to play with the laser light.

Maybe a pet rock would do.

I had a pet rock once.  I wouldn't eat.  I had to put it down.

I was going to bury it, but I couldn't find anything to use for a tombstone.  It's still sitting in my studio.  Sometimes, I'll talk to it, but it's not the same.  You can look at it and you know.  It's not there anymore.

I think a chimp would be an excellent pet to have in the studio. You'd have your talent, artist, engineer, and producer all in one (+ the chimp can bring you beer). It's a win win situation!!

I've had a few pets over the years.  I couldn't keep them, though, for various reasons.

Spider monkey--I got tired of cleaning up the webs.

Dramadairy--too much angst and no milk.

Hyena--it kept laughing at me.  Usually, when I was trying to mix a track.

Tasmanian Devil--it kept gnawing on things.  I'm being sued by several former clients who've lost hands or fingers.  I told them not to pet Fluffy.  I wonder if they'll be able to play piano again.  Fluffy seemed to like piano players.

Old55 this is great that we can share our own experiences. The tasmanian devil was tempting me as a possibility. The loss of apendages on clients is a sad thing and bad for business I guess.......*sigh* guess I'll keep looking.

I almost forgot. An owl my not be ideal either.  Though it's not as dangerous as Fluffy, it was always "hoo, hoo" and annoying the singers.  It come in handy while recording a cover of Sympathy For The Devil.

Should auld acquaintance be forgot--hey, who the hell are you guys?

After a little more thought I'm now leaning toward something like " rent a pet" .  There are just so many options.

    3 x Samsung SATA III 500gb SSD, 2X 1 Samsung 1tb 7200rpm outboard, Win 10 64bit,
Laptop HP Omen i7 16gb 2/sdd with Focusrite interface.
CbB, Studio One 4 Pro, Mixcraft 8, Ableton Live 10

Just an idea, how about something you could eat after you get bored with it? Chicken, Lamb, Pig (pork) maybe?
