Your're Really Not That Far Away

This is a sample of a new song - well it's been in my head for a few years. This sample version includes an intro, one verse and chorus. Wanted to get this out there before going on to finish the mix.

see Soundclick link - first song on the list.       Thanks !!

    Charles,

Well, at the present time, it does sound unfinished and very tinny sounding. You may want to add some reverb or a bit of echo to the mix to start out with and make sure the panning of the instruments and vocals is in perspective and not sharing the same space. I don't know what your looking for, as you didn't ask for any specifics, so you could get several different responses to your post. Maybe finish the piece and do what you think is mastering to it and then re-post it asking for more specific responses on the mix, as no one knows what is in your head for the finished work, but you. Hope this is helpful.

    Peace and Blessings, John

I think this could be quite something when it's finished. I look forward to hearing it. The feel of it puts me in mind of our late forum friend Jimmy Gentry. In case you never heard his stuff, that's a compliment btw.

I agree with John about the mix.  I know you said it's unfinished.  The beat (snare or whatever) is kind of distracting.  I'd do it without that if it was mine.  But, it's not and it's just a suggestion.  Your next song on the player came on while I was writing.  Much more finished project so I know what you can do.  I've been away for awhile and didn't remember your songs.  There is great potential for this tune.

I appreciate this feedback. First time I put one up like this in rough-draft form - which now I think is a good idea for getting suggestions about doing the rest of it. The comment on the drums is well taken. I was not sure about including that at all and might drop it - or find a better one that fits. I like the soft back beats in some commercial acoustic songs, and struggling somewhat to create or come up with a good one from my library. That one right now is a lame mixture of snare, side stick and hat.  Plod on.

I went back to the project - and found I had an EQ on the master with a great deal of mid to low cut way down, from trying something else out, and did not turn that off before exporting down to a stereo track..ugh. One thing anyway I found. I am going to take that sample track off Soundclick, and will post after it is back up. Hey thanks
