I was thinking a Beatles remake... But nope... I like it...it has a retro feel to it... nice recording technique.... it sounds good. No hard crits...

Isn't "You've Got To Hide Your Love Away" a lyric line from some Pearl Jam song? Anyways, I think the vocals could be more in tune or something, they definitely have that "bad-pitch" feel to them. There are some good melody ideas here, but there are definitely alot of weak spots from occasional piano notes, strings, drum fills, etc. Hope this helps :)

I think i know what you're talking about, but I'm not sure. Any way, I completed a remix. I left the first mix at the bottom of my first page.

Hey, didn't you sing that "Melt with You" tune back in the 80s?

The mix sounds smooth on my rig. I like how you double the lead vocal, which you've done on all the stuff I've heard from you so far.

Top-notch arrangement and production - I enjoyed the piano lines and tone. The strings were a nice complimentary touch.

    Cool tune,
    Doug

tdye, It's a lot of hard work. I sing over the top of the first vocal track til I get it just right. Thats the hardest thing I do. the reverb brings it out a bit more, sometimes to much.

Burt guy, Thank you much. What can I improve on? Do I understand you right, no 60s or 80s sound on this one?

    Yo Terry,

I consider the 60's to be the heyday of pop, with the 80's a decent second. That said, I would place this number squarely in the 60's with its double tracked vocal, counter melodic string part, accoustic piano, and the understated drums. (I never liked giving the drums 60% of the mix) If anything it reminds me of the Left Bank or somebody like that. Or maybe its an 80's guy trying to sound like the 60's. Prince similarly invoked the 60's with his Raspberry Beret and Bangle's stuff in the 80's.

As far as this song is concerned, I think it is good as it is. A nice balanced recording. Good composition.

    Cheers,

    Bert

The bass line - I like it on the verse, but it's repetitive on the chorus. Maybe more picking on the bas for the chorus (kind of like the bass line in 'Silly Love Songs') - maybe not all of it, but some, like the first two bars. Just my two cents I think it would help make the chorus a better hook.

I like the doubling thing; there is way to cheat though ;) Get Antares Harmony Engine and there's a preset to make it double the vocal that style of way without any hastle, and it sounds real at that. I really liked it, the drums could come up a bit and be stronger, definitely make the kick drum higher in the mix, it also feels a little hollow, possibly a pad or something, I unno. Good song though.

I think that you get that comment of the "60'S" thing is due to your vocal quality and production............It's not a bad thing.........in fact it is kinda of refreshing in a lot of ways..........it's just who you are..............and I admire that because I'm still searching.........so job job ..carry on and I will keep listening to you regardless...because I like your material...........

Ok, I will stay with this 60s thing, but I will have to make it a 60s, 2010 sound. I don't think I will pull it off with my next song, but I'm pretty sure I can with the one after that one. I can picture the end result on both of them.
