Z3ta plug-in problem
I'm running sonar 7.0 and am about to install 8.0 For some time, on launching Sonar, I've gotten the message: "The Following plug-in caused an error during load: Z3ta+ The failure point was reported as: Main Call." At one point, someone in the forum suggested that due to my uninstalling and reinstalling sonar 7.01 and .02, and finally re-installing 7.00 (due to problems with V-Vocal that were only resolved when I used v 7.00), that I had incurred some problems in the registry that needed to be removed before I could solve the Z3ta problem. I'd like to do this before i install Sonar 8.0. Can anyone tell me if I do need to edit a registry item, and if so, what the procedure would be for straightening out the registry? Thanks in advance for any help.

Thanks in advance for any help. Without knowing which registry item is causing your problem, editing the registry is hit and miss. Also, I doubt if it's Sonar that's causing the problem. Rather, it's probably the Z3ta installation, so uninstalling Sonar would do nothing to help the problem. I've just noticed that Z3ta has no Uninstaller, either in the control panel or in its profile folder. Perhaps you can try reinstalling Z3ta? This may set things right again.

Nope. Reinstalled Z3ta, but no help. And yes, I wouldn't edit the reg without knowing for certain what to delete. And at this point, I don't have a clue.

"The Following plug-in caused an error during load: Z3ta+ The failure point was reported as: Main Call." This isn't a registry problem. There has always been an incompatibility between z3ta+ and the way that Sonar's VST Adapter ("internal" or external) scans the plugin. On the first scan pass, you may get a "Main Call" or "Open Editor" error. It may be baffling, but it's harmless. Go to Tools -> Cakewalk Plug-in Manager. Select VSTi Instruments (VSTi) under the Plug-in Categories. Under VST Configuration, click on the Options button. Select 'Re-scan failed plugins', then click OK. Still under VST Configuration, click on the Scan VST Plug-ins button to manually run the scan a second time. That should clear things up for you. It's been quite a while since I've run across this, so there may also be a 'Reset All ...' procedure involved (VST Configuration -> Options). But the problem will go away for good after a couple of 'narrowed' scans with selected options.

b rock: Thank you for the tip. Turns out I already had the re-scan options on, so that didn't help, BUT.... I started looking around the plugin Mgr and discovered that, somehow, I had two different VSTplugins folders, each with its own copy of several plugins, including Z3ta, and one folder had two z3ta plugins, one in the rgcaudio subfolder, and one in the vstplugins folder. it's a wonder any of them worked at all. After carefully comparing all these I realized only the one in the rgcaudio folder had the full complement of skins, tunings etc. So I shut down Sonar, deleted all duplicates and left only the one rgcaudio folder. I was half-expecting disaster, but when I relaunched Sonar, it loaded without any complaint about Z3ta, and worked fine. I set up a Z3ta synth and it too works great. so thanks again, even though my situation was more disgusting than anticipated.

Fog: In the heat of my last project, I upgraded to 7.02 and suddenly had problems with VVocal, which I was using extensively. the only way I got it back was to uninstall sonar and reinstall 7.00. Since it worked, I had to press on to finish the project. I'm now somewhat recovered from deadline-itis and trying to clean things up. and since I removed all those duplicate plugins yesterday, I'm hoping I can upgrade again and maybe VVocal will work. Or just go straight to S8 and deal with whatever problem it presents (and enjoy its improvements!!).

Do not under any circumstances edit the registry unless you know exactly what you are doing, you will kill your machine if that is the case. Safest method Uninstall Sonar completely. Clean up you vst folder location so you have one top level directory for all vst's not supplied by Cakewalk Get a reg scanner, someone here will advise on the best lost of free ones on the net Install Sonar 7 and all its patches Then as suggested get 8 install that with all its patches, remembering that Sonar 8.3.0 is supposed to release next month.

"Get a reg scanner, someone here will advise on the best lost of free ones on the net " It appears that the OP has already solved his problem, but or those looking or a food and free registry cleaner, C Cleaner is a good one. (Google CCleaner and you'll find it.)

Wookie: I know the dangers you're talking about. I've edited the reg before, but only when I had exact, complete, reliable and specific instructions. Wouldn't touch it any other way. I also never trusted any reg cleaner after I tried one years ago. On my way in, it started asking we questions in terms that may have been from Saturn. I backed out fast w/o bad results. But I believe registry-level guys talk and think in terms I never even want to think about. ## ed97643: "OP"? Offended Party? Older Person? ???
