ZZ....
finally arrived and been enjoying before I start my day. There are three cuts that really took me back to the classic ZZ. They still have their groove...and I was in it first cut. I'm big on packageing. It sucks. Thin cardboard gatefold and the flap has a lot of printing that I may have been able to read twenty years ago and I'm not going to pull out a lens to read it. Unfortunately there was no pride or expense given. There seems to be a harshness with many of the CDs I listen to. It may be me as I read reviews of others that think all is good. This one is one of those. It seems to have that really pearsing bright mid and high end that vinyle seemed to tame. Lows are excellent which vinyle seemed to miss so often. All in all...to release a studio album, their first in nine years.....it just seems they went more for the coins than anything else. Sad IMO....but man can they groove.

The last ZZ Top CD I bought and enjoyed was 'Rhythmeen'..hard to believe that was 16 years ago.

agree on all comments-especially the high mix but have the first few bars of 25 lighters as my ring tone-sure stands out! also checked out the original rap version which is way tamer than his. speaking of boring-almost fell asleep during first listens to Psychedelic Pill. After the glorious mess of Americana i was hanging out for this one but ,Neil, why did you bother!! apparently this is his first ever album written without weed and i guess a expected a bit more upbeat material but this is as flat as a tack. Bring back the old Neil.

Sounds like they stayed pretty close to their roots.... many of this songs could easily have been on any number of their past projects without too much effort. Still rocking....

http://grooveshark.com/#!/album/La+Futura/8232554 I dig that Texas "you-call-that-distortion?-I'll-show-ya-what-some-distortion-sounds-like-...-BOY" tone. You can hear a great example on the short breaks in the chorus of "Gotta Get Paid." :-) It seems bright and bombastic in way that reminds me that people that dig bar band or juke joint sound just listen differently than people who dig stereo sound. Thanks for the heads up. best regards, mike

hey mike. re:Gotsa Get Paid-(25 Lighters) First heard this on the radio and imported it next day just to hear that guitar intro again. It`s the ringtone on my old Motorola and it just crackles away! The old school turnaround always makes me grin. the "25 lighters on my dresser" line rang a bell and it turns out to be a cover of one of Billy Gibbons favourite rap artists form the late 90`s. It`s a reference to the days when you bought your drugs in empty disposable lighters. check it out: DJ DMD ft. Lil' Keke & Fat Pat - 25 Lighters

You know, I wanted to say I thought it was a Rap song... seriously, the verses had a certain structure... I had an urge... but I was scared Strummy would make fun of me. Cool stuff!
