Zombies Got The Blues (Updated 22 October)

UPDATE:
New version, 22 October - added some dirt to the vocals, organ, and guitar, minor performance edits, added lots of creepy FX.

Conceived and produced this morning, when I should have been doing other stuff. ;)  It should go without saying that since this only took me half a day I left a lot of errors in!  My guitar playing is a bit sloppy in places (although I did run through that a few times), and the vocal is first take, no edits.  If people really dig it, I may revisit those and polish it a bit more.

Anyway, Happy Halloween!  I hope you all enjoy it.

Zombies Got The Blues

There once was a zombie, his name Zombie Joe
Spent year after year in his cold rotting hole
Then there struck lightning one late Halloween
He really got down now, you'll see what I mean, yeah

He crawled from his graveyard, out into the street
His feet shuffled on toward the place they would meet
He came to the tavern where they used to play tunes
Zombie bandmates had gathered and they kicked up some blues, yeah!

Hey, who the hell do you guys think you are, Steely Dan or something??

Ah!! Walt sings the zombie blues. This is kind of cool Walt, not that I'm into zombies, but musically and vocally it is cool. I was thinking you would have sounded different based on your picture, maybe a deeper/stronger voice, but all is good. Nice one.

Thanks for listening John.  I actually sang this while sitting down, into an SM57 that I have hooked up at my desk (usually for things like video voiceovers).  I didn't even get my usual vocal mic out of the closet (an AKG C414B-ULS).  I still may be adding some things to this song, possibly including some vocal effects.  And I just noticed that the EQ in my vocal track's pro channel is doing a roll off in the lower frequencies.  I should probably change that to something more suiting the song theme.  Thanks!

Thanks John!  I considered adding a few more lyrics to take the story further, but I wasn't sure where I could fit them into the song.  It's an unusual arrangement... just 2 verses, a bridge and an outro.  Not exactly textbook in terms of songwriting. ;)

I might be able to toss in a guitar lick here or there during the verses.  That's probably a really good idea actually.  Thanks!

For what it is, it does have some quirky qualities to it that appeal to my ears. Though the speed changes left me a bit puzzled.

Thanks James, I appreciate your time and comments!  I probably didn't pull off my idea very well, but the central joke was supposed to be that I was trying to create a mental image of some bad ass zombies playing lounge music.  It would start off as a spooky zombie crawl, then morph into the zombies rocking out, then they would decide to switch over to some smooth lounge music (all with the same bass line).  Maybe my idea wasn't as funny as I thought. ;)  Or maybe I need some more lyrics to explain it better.

Cool and quirky.  What a fun number and nicely done.  It sounds like one of those special moments when things just click and you come up with something as creative as this.  I really like the beginning of the guitar lead toward the end.  The easy starting pace really contrasts and complements the hard driving bass.
    Nice one!!

I don't think I could write a Halloween tune, so good job there. Not sure the guitar chords fit when it kicked in. And the tone on the lead seemed "subdued?" And didn't fit as well as it could have (IMO)

Had a good time carving a gourd withe the boy this past weekend though :-) I think I'm going to fit a box on my head with two big holes on the front that says "Free mobile breast exams..."

Thanks for checking it out Robbie.  The idea was that the odd juxtapositions would be funny (I'm imagining something like zombie Steely Dan).  I keep listening to it and wondering if it's genius or idiocy.  Probably the latter.  But it was fun!

Good tune, Walt.  I pictured Steely Dan playing, looking like zombies.  That started with the tempo increase and the last line.  So, suggestively it worked on me!  I enjoyed the tune.

Thanks Warren!  The version yesterday had a much cleaner sounding guitar solo.  I'm afraid I may have gone too far with the "Long Reverse" delay setting, which really jumbled it up considerably.

Thanks again for listening... again, John. :)  You mentioned above that my voice should sound lower, so I thought why not add a nice demon voice effect to the zombie mix?  Glad you liked it.  Demons and zombies aside, of course!

Like the demon voice, tho sometimes both voxes gets stepped on.  Still, I don't think that is a problem - no problem understanding the song is about zombies.

Love the early guitar riffs - lovely.  and nice change into steely dan mode.

Excellent halloween song - or any time of the year.

Thanks AT!  Steely Dan mode is considerably less jazzy now that I've added copious amounts of Skreamer and PsycheDelay (from Guitar Rig 5) to the lead guitar.  Also, I changed the nice mellow Rhodes piano into an overdriven and flanged pipe organ (although it still uses Lounge Lizard, which has ultimate super awesomeness powers!).

Nothing wrong w/ more edge.  I like the guitars - slow and in the fast section.  And the organ.  I didn't hear the "before" version, I guess.  I need to play w/ lounge some.
