Zoom H4N wav files into x1 producer

Hello, group.  I got an h4n and x1 producer for christmas.   I have been recording tons of guitar.  I started trying to import my .way files into X1 by going file, import, audio and bringing the file over.   It does come over and goes to the track, but it inports as dots.  and not an audio looking wave form.  Before I import I can hit preview and it works fine.  But once it is inported I can't get it to work..   Any direction on what I can try?  Thanks for any input..

I agree with Mike.  I have an H4 and use it with Sonar all the time.  Connect the H4 to your computer and drag your H4 wave files into a folder.  Open X1 and import the wave files - it works perfectly.

Equipment: Intel E6550 Dual Core, 2.33GHz, 2GB CL4 memory, Window XP Home, Sonar X1, EZ Drummer, M-Audio Omni Studio, Mackie 1402-VLZ, Alpha Track, PCR-500

I have no doubt it is error on my part.  I am the worlds worst user of recording software.

Here is what I did, I couldn't find my cable to connect the H4N so I took out the sd card and made a folder on my computer to store my music I had recorded with the h4n.  I opened up a few of the songs with itunes and then with windows media player.  They worked well.  Next I imported from the folder I created location using file, import audio.  It copied over but with the dots instead of wave forms.

After reading mikes post, I just dragged and dropped directly into sonars track, still dots.  I went to the source file and it says 16 bits sample and 44.1k sample rate.  I went into x1 preferences and it has 44.1k sample rate and the bit rate is darkened out 16 bit is showing but I am not able to adjust.  Probably limitations of my sound card on my laptop (generic low latency ASIO driver) is what sonar selected for me.   Althought I have used this laptop for a year or two with sonar.

Any other thoughts, thanks again for your help.

If there are dots on the track it means the wav-clip is positioned further in the project - it can be at measure 750 or whatever.

I don't know if the H4 wavs have a time stamp, but you can try if there's a difference in the import or not whether the "Import Boroadcast wav at time stamp" (or something like that :o) is checked or not.

AHHH, very good Kalle, thank you.  My music is there it is just about a mile down the road on the track (40563 to be exact) on this particular track.  I will read into the keyword import broadcast and see if that gets me anywhere.  Thanks for your help.

It did Mike, thank you for your help. Now I just have to figure out how to get rid of the mile of dots....  I had a 16gb sd card that was getting full last night and dumped it onto the computer from the h4n.  Apparently I didn't do something right.

Thanks Mike, I am a real dunce at this stuff.  I really like playing guitar alot more than recording.  So I imagine a bad recording novice is all I will ever be.  I will take what you have said and search keyword Import broadcast and see if that gets me anywhere.

Thanks a ton for your help

Hi Rocker, I alsi have teh zoom H4n and sonar X1a producer. I had the same issue, completely threw me but mike is on the money I reckon - that was my fix. Been plain sailing ever since and the H4n has actually saved my band from annihilation. We record all our rehearsal and there are no more arguments about what was played what way last week - I record the session, then that same night I upload the mp3's to dropbox - in addition to all the field recording and found sounds and also as a songwriting tool - it is a wonderful piece of gear. Make sure you have the latest firmware on it.

Please listen to my band's new (post-prog rock?!) songs at www.reclaimmusic.com all produced using sonar X1!!

    Hi,

Seems like this gets lots of people. I had same issue copying files from SD card to folder and then importing. I'll give this a go. By the way you get the same with 8.5 but Sonar 5 works fine. And if you import to 5 and export the resultant file imports easily into XI.

    I recorded a concert with a ZOOM H2 on a 16gig SD card.
    When importing to Sonar X1D, I got the dots.. .. .. ..
The file was imported at measure 34139; 18hours:58minutes into the new project.

Deselecting "Import Boroadcast wav at time stamp" fixed this issue as suggested by Mike.
