Zynaptiq Adaptiverb

Gentlemen, this is a mythical wonder of a plugin. Just have a listen to this dry/wet vid:

That was a deal, o ye King L, but this is about the software itself. I love it.
And it has almost 500 presets. Reverb and resynthesis.
It's like Blackhole plus Shimmer plus harmonic synth.
Didn't have that much fun with fx for a while.

Well of course it's going to have that "shiney new car smell"...

Question is "When is a reverb not a reverb?"  When they mix
it with other "effects" to create another "type" probably...

Of course everyone will be Gaga over it...for a few months...and then
relegated back to the "Wow...that was so novelty".

I'm not saying it's not decent...I'm saying it's WAY overpriced, even
at Intro Price...

Reverbs are saturated, and creating "novelty" ones, like "rematrix" which everyone
oooohed and ahhhhed over when it came out..blah blah blah...etc...ad nasuem...
is of course going to generate hoopla...

Hey it may be the next big thing...who knows...

Yep, I don't see it as a reverb "per se" but much more, as I'm interested in the AI, and the way it "glues" mixes.
I played around with AIR Loom just now, first using the Sigur Ros preset on Eventide Blackhole, which was quite nice, but then I simply loaded Adaptiverb's default patch and, lo and behold, that's what I call resynthesis.
Oh yeah, papa's got a brand new bag indeed.

Cheers Lars, got it already
Here's a first customer review @Time+Space:
“Reviewed by: James Woolfe
Zynaptiq Adaptiverb
I was not planning to buy another reverb, I have a good few in my toolbox but after reading Zynaptiq's product description of Adapiverb I was intrigued to find out exactly what “Harmonic Tracking Resynthesis Reverb” was and more importantly how it sounded.
I am so glad that I did as this plug in has completely blown me away and changed my perception of what a reverb can do. I tried it with a few loops at first just to get a flavour for what it could do selecting presets at random. Adaptiverb has the ability to completely transform a sound in a very musical way. It works well on a wide range of sounds. Pads become richer and deeper and I found that provided I got the wet dry mix right it is great on drums. Vocals are lush but the most fun that I had was creating Drones. If you compose Ambient soundscapes Adapiverb will be right up your street. It has a freeze button which will freeze the reverb at the point where you engage this control. You can then play around with the some of the parameters to create movement and variation. It is a sound designers dream. Just be warned. You can get lost for hours with this.
What I loved most about Adaptiverb was when I put it on on the master bus. It completely transformed my mix adding glue space, depth and what I can only describe as a subtle harmonic sound. Its amazing just how much wet you can blend into the mix without it becoming a mess. There is defiantly some strange voodoo magic going on here. This may not work with all tracks, I don’t think that I would use Adaptiverb on a dance mix as it does take away a bit of punch and attack but for Ambient styles it is perfect. It made me feel like I had Brian Eno in my studio working his magic !
This is a completely different approach to Reverb. When you first open the Plug it can be a bit bewildering but after a while I started to get a basic understanding. There are still a few things that I have yet to get my head around and I think that the manual could have been better written. It tells you about the features but not how to use them or at least not in a way that I could understand. Maybe some good You Tube videos could help here however, there are a good selection of presets to get you started and help you with your learning curve.
Also customer support from Zynaptiq is great. I sent a email asking advice on how to recreate the settings that they used on their demo video and within a hour they had sent me the patch.
For me the best plug ins are the ones that inspire creativity and help you to push your work into new directions and it is for this reason Adaptiverb gets a big thumbs up and 5 stars from me.
Adaptiverb is truly inspiring.”

Edith: and this is what EastWestLurker Jay Asher writes about it over at VI Control: "What I AM sure about is that this combines both the cleanliness and accuracy of a great convolution reverb, like QL Spaces, with the breathing and life of a good algorithmic reverb, like the UAD Plate 140, AND brings this reaction to the source material that is totally unique. I am bowled over by it."

Re: Zynaptiq Adaptiverb 2016/08/19 18:50:28 (permalink)
Thanks for bring this to my attention peeps.

I haven't bought it yet, but I downloaded the demo and I've had a bit of a play this evening.

I have to agree, quite strongly, with anyone who considers Adaptiverb as a sound design tool and NOT a reverb. I've been experimenting with a sample of a marching band and I'm quite amazed at the range of sounds that I am generating from this seed sample. The resulting output doesn't sound anything like the seed.

Definitely CPU hungry,  so once I have found a sound that I like I have been freezing the track, copying the resulting audio to a new track, and then unfreezing the original track again, which then allows me to try a different preset with the same "tail," if you like.

I will be very surprised if I do not purchase Adaptiverb.

Breverb 2 remains my favourite reverb plug...

I am using Adaptiverb in the latest One Sample Dare challenge over at the ambientonline forum.

I processed a small part of the supplied sample using some of the Adaptiverb drone and pad presets and frozen each time in order to create a new wave file. I then used Iris 2 to create new patches from the Adaptiverb waves.

Not a great piece, but it demonstrates that you can use Adaptiverb as an inspiration for other things...

Dave doesn't have a computer yet. He's expecting the UPS truck to come up the driveway any day now. Dave's withdrawal symptoms have become so severe that he's recently succumbed to Third Dave Syndrome, a peculiar affliction in which people named Dave refer to themselves in the third person.

I'm finding it hard to get my head around certain aspects of Adaptiverb, mainly the freeze and hold setting when trying to make my own presets. I thought I knew what I was doing, but didn't.

Getting there, slowly...

In the meantime, I created a simple experiment whereby I fed a simple Hive sequence into Adaptiverb and then automated some of the presets:-
