It's definitely different. The backing tracks need a bit more low end and brought up a bit in the mix, it seemed a bit thin. Otherwise it was OK. It would classify it more early to mid 60s than 50s though.

This is a fine song that defies categorization in any time period.  However, your use of reverb or delay on the vocal does give it that vintage quality.  I would bring up the lead vocal a bit because the f/x does cover some of the words.  There is one element in the mix that does not quite sound right.  I think it's the attack of the bass guitar or kick which sounds a little hard and out of place for this style.  But, that's just my ears, and that opinion may not be universally shared.  Still, it's a good song, and one to be proud of.

    All the best,

I would agree with both comments. It's probably 'thin' because I cut too much low mid to get rid of mud. And the bass and kick is probably too loud in the regular mid area (because I wanted that instead of the normally acceptable bass sound.) Thanks to both of you; I'll have another go at it.

Nice one.  It definitely has a vintage feel to it.  Overall the song reminds me of Tommy Roe and the Roemans (early 1960's).  Perhaps bringing down the bass (as was the style for that period of time -- at least in the US studios) and bringing in a rhythm guitar with a heavier mid-range would add a bit more of the old-time quality.  I love the vocal quality that you put into this song.  It really captured a certain style of ballad that came out during that time.
    Terrific number indeed.
