a metronome enhancement request

I've recently started recording a live drummer playing with the metronome
and I getting really frustrated with the current implementation.

The BPM cannot be adjusted while the sequencer is running.

You must stop it, open the BPM, close the window, start recording
and stop again to redo the same thing until the drummer is happy with
the BPM.

How difficutl would this be to have an "audition metronome" functionality
implemented?

    Hi Mario-

    the BPM.

It can't be adjusted while recording, but during playback a quicker way to change it is via the Tempo toolbar (View|Toolbars|Tempo). You can type in the BPM directly or use the +/- buttons to change it while the sequencer's running without opening a separate window. Not exactly what you want, but it might save a little time/aggravation.

EDIT: This is with the metronome checked On for Playback, of course!

I wish Sonar could change the count-in/playback rate (just like in Cubase/Mpc/Ping Dxi).

Why be just limited to quarter notes or your time signature?

also to have the metronome as a simple toggle switch that can be switched on during playback or recording would be ace. (see ableton live)

    cheers

    ..but is it 20 - 40% better ?

    Susan,

    - my suggestion makes more sense....but it will cost me 100$....:)

    - I will play with the playback trick you describe but I would like
to point this to the Cakewalk folks:

99% of the time we set the click when the project is brand new, thus
there is nothing to play....so the play button is inactive....thus
you can't tweak the bpm while the drummer is playing along with it.

I guess I'll have to send my preferred template with a track that
    will have "silence" audio.

You could just stick any old MIDI event on a track "somewhere out there" to get playback...

I know, still not what you want!

Why wouldn't just have the drummer use the tap function to set the bpm he wants?

    Susan,

you what....I'm thinking so much "audio" that I kinda omitted that
    midi notes are still "alive".....

    thanks for the reminder

    Mario,

note: at 500$US a piece we shouldn't have this workaround. We don't
control the feature list but it doesn't mean we can't put it on the
    wish list.'

    Cheers!
