a warning about line-6 variax
Went to guitar center today and bought line6 variax guitar and the pod xt live , also took home the boss gt8 because i couldnt decide which processor i wanted.been researching for a while. figured i would try them out and retrun the one i didnt like. problem is there both awesome, I mean really totally awesome. i havent played guitar this long in one strech for years. my back hurts. one problem is they both have advantages the other does not. the pod is so simple to use and it has and nice delay tap trigger thats pretty handy the boss has dual amp and sims and souds really good (ive always been partial to boss/roland) now the big problem......the variax that i really wanted...i wored fine for about 8 hours put it down for a little while to have dinner..left it pluged in , turned the amps off but left the pod running......picked it up after dinner..and nothing except three strings work....i tried everything....i mean theres nothing to try it just doesnt work right.... something went wrong.. these variax's seemed preety cool. but if its that fragile i dont want it....i mean i didnt driop it or anything... now to figure out which processor to keep.. any suggestions????
I harbor no ill will towards any man.

I'd keep the GT-8. It also has the delay-tap function you know. The dual preamps, dual effect processors, ... it's all good. And once you figured all the options out, you can shape your sound perfectly. Haven't tried the POD XT Live, but it seems a little more limited, and I think it looks ugly.

your right the pod is more limited but i think thats the beauty of it.. i like that the knobs are protected. not the case in the boss...i agree the boss is a few steps above the pod but they both sound great..

Problems like the one you described are usually related to a poor solder connection. It shouldn't be too difficult to open the guitar up and troubleshoot it but since the guitar is under warranty your best bet is to exchange it or return it. I know someone who has been using one of those guitars for a few years now and no problems whatsoever (live gigs).

well one of the cool things about using the PodXTLive with the Variax is the fact that you can setup the pod patches to control your variax also.. Thats a tight combination... Not that it is that difficult when using the Boss to have to switch the guitar too at the beginning of a song, but it would be kinda cool to have a lead patch on the Pod that would switch your guitar from an LP-style to an Ibanez style or something to shred, then back again when you hit another patch.. Integration is nice, although you become kinda trapped as well.

I have the JTV 59P. Nice guitar and I like to play it. Not perfect but it makes a great Swiss Army knife kind of guitar. I found an HD500 used for a couple hundred bucks. It makes a nice combination but I still prefer a miked up amp.

I just got a JTV-89 for just 699$ at musicians friend. Its butt ugly (a black shredder guitar) but the tones are great and I like the flat, thin type Ibanez neck. It matches my HD500 perfectly!
