There is another option, which is when you're collaborating with other people, you can communicate with one another like competent adults, and agree to work with the common set of tools you all have. I know this sounds CRAZY, but it does work. Honest.

I find it fascinating how some people see 'options' for new products/plugs/updates etc as a negative, almost sinister act! I dont get it - personally I look forward to new products and announcements. They are all optional - no one forces you to buy anything so that you have to keep up with anyone. I buy what I think will be useful, otherwise let it go. As far as your buddys all using Sonar - here's an easy workaround - tell em all not to buy any other plugs or upgrades, then you'll all be on the same page.

Hey John & Millzy, What you say is just too sensible :-) I have all the PC-Plugs, so anyone wants to colab with me, they better buy the lot too ! Ah well, seems nobody wants to colab with me anyway, so I can just do what ever the hell I like :-) It does seem strange the way some people have mini-meltdowns over these issues - which aren't really issues at all. Getting to the OP's real point. He along with a few don't like it that Cake has proprietary efx. The only problem I see for cake is now they are committed to PC, it's here forever. I don't mind. I like using it and sounds I get. Why am I responding to this post? Never mind, forget I joined in. :)

It's pretty good that all your mates have Sonar. The door to door salesman is mighty effective in that area.

Hold on kids. Unless a collab is shuttling around the "whole" project (i.e. the entire project folder or a .cwb) what does it matter what each friend has in SONAR (or even if they have <heaven forbid> another DAW)? Or for that matter what 3rd part plugs the friend has? FWIW, The CHB shuttles individual stems for each contribution. When someone mixes the song, it does not matter what each individual has on their SONAR, it's the mix/engineer and mastering engineer that will decide if any PC FX's (or any other 3rd party plug) is required. Am I missing something?

i have been a spokes man since sonar music creator and home studio.i have a group of about 5-6 guys who all have sonar we all pass along mixed projects to see what each can come up with, but now there are 2 guys who have the complete set of soft tube plugs. and brick limiter should be built in every track or buss at least. but where now stuck with there being no option its a fact if you have x1d expanded, odd are everyone has a few extra's and now in reality we all dont use any of them ,cus we all have different ones, i see what there doing but as music room stated , its hear to stay, and we will never all be on the same page again, its consictancy thats all, not anything wrong it just dont seems right. besides the limiter, the group at least should be standard in x1 pro ex would make it alittle better. but we all got the t racks deluxe ( great dead, and still getting better with free plugs)now the playing field is level.we all have tracks P channel will be useless now but guess what its on every trach eather way,, get my drift now, so if we use the 3rd party plug or not we have it on all tracks and all the real usefull prochannel tools are not a options since they are all 2x $.

Sometimes you have to say to your mates - it's softube or me. And you've got to prepare yourself for the fact that some may prefer the plug-in. It's happened to me once or twice. Hey I even lost a friend to a freebie. You never get over something like that.

Print the effects to a track if necessary. Of the things that I find that are wrong or lacking in SONAR X1, the ability to collaborate isn't one of them.

i think the emails i recieve from cake trying to sell me new stuff is a little decieving..you guys dont agree? how bout that one a month ago that said.."sonar expanded only 10.00 !!!!! ""...then you scroll down the page and it reads "with the purchase of sonar x1 producer"..and then to put something in that add that read.."all our members in the forum our raving about it !!! ""...that to me was just downrite silly. i wrote back an email and gave my feelings on that, and guess what..when the next promo i recived in an email came...it was the exact same one, only it said "two more days"..and i noticed the part about, everyone in our forum...that was no longer in the add. hey its one thing to send out promos and adds but i think its gotten a little carried away and if you guys dont see that...well im sorry.but its true.

I thought you wanted to buy them but cannot because they're no longer on sale? Or are you referring to those that come with SONAR X1 Expanded? And if so, then the same goes for every other feature in SONAR... Like the Matrix View or Beatscape. Or how about the Sonitus Phase plugin or SpectraFX... ever use those?

well why not try this, If u have mate who all use Sonar and some have took the leap and purchased what they would like to use, then you do what you can with the tools you have then - when the final mix has to be completed send it back to your mates who have the newer goodies - with this then you may get a hit record then be able to purchase the newest toys without worrying. Then create more fan dabby doo records for you and others to rejoyce to and dance, Dance then where ever you may be i am the lord of the dance said he! and such like. Long Live Techno!

John T You don't have to buy them. This is ridiculous. You've obviously got them all. You try not buying one and see what happens. I didn't buy the Concrete Limiter and within a week I had a sinister phone call. The caller said if I didn't buy it I may well meet with a nasty accident. I wasn't taking any chances, I coughed up my ££s and downloaded it straight away. A week later a guy turns up on my doorstep tooled up, wanting to know why I hadn't started using it. I pleaded with him to let me live and he said "You've got an hour, start using it or I'll be back" I'm not taking any chances in future I just buy them and use them now whether I like it or not.............

Simple solution - add Cakewalk to your spam filter - no more tempting emails tormenting your consumer soul. Options are "optional" by nature, they don't deny you of anything you didn't already have, nothing gets taken away from your original purchase by not buying them.
