Any you guys played with this yet?

Niche synth. Requires registration to the newsletter to get a free download link.

Four independent generators with the presets a good place to start exploring. Stereo imaging is quite good. Worth the steps to download.

edit...

Pegasi, not pigasi.  Amazing how alcohol takes down everyting including spelling skills...Still an interesting synth.  Pig or peg by any other name...

Thanks for the info.  I went to their forum and someone there compared it to some of the kontakt libraries from HollowSun and Hideaway Studios.  Any idea why?  If there is any resemblance that would be a plus or at least it caught my attention.

I registered and will at least try it out for free.

Cecilius,

The synth has a bunch of presets that aren't what you would go to first line choice. The ambience is spread real nice across the stereo field and maybe hints at some of the potential. Looks like they have 4 engines with 4 separate effects fields. Haven't seen a reverb in there, but there's a delay on each sample that spreads the projection into 3D very nicely and simulates reverb..

Some complexity getting used to the thing. Similar to the learning curve on Timeless reverb.

They did a couple other freeware synths, Beast and UFO. For all the good press, didn't get into these because there was nothing new. Good synths but covered elsewhere.

Pegasi free is worth the time to download even if it takes the time to figure out what's going on beyond the presets. The dreamy Kontakt Hollow Sun pads are there but require some tweaking to save custom presets. One of the better if not more conplex freeware offerings.

Best,
John

Past experience (although admittedly in the distant past) put me off SynthMaker creations: they tend to be CPU-hungry and prone to crashing the host. Let us know how it goes. I can probably find some uses for another sample-based synth, and free is right in my price range!

Re: alpha pigasi 2013/08/25 03:36:57 (permalink)
Just did a quick test on my office computer which only has 8 gigs of ram and an AMD Phenom 955 processor.  Haven't tried it on my studio DAW which is an I72700; so this is a preliminary report using an older PC.

First, it is 32bit. So that will be a concern for some users who only run 64bit.
Second, some of the patches are in fact cpu intensive.  On this old AMD 955 some of the presets increased CPU by 8 percent; others were just 2 percent.  So it can be a little CPU hog.  It comes with 32 presents.
Third, and this is just an impression, but I was struck by the tone of several of the presets which were pads.  I can see how it can be easily tweaked to sound kind of like Hollow Sun family of odd relic tones since that was mentioned on developer's forum.  It definitely has the capacity for some interesting pads and it is easy to tweak the settings and get interesting textures or cool pads.
Fourth, not much to the GUI; very basic, but it gets the job done.
Fifth, it is free.  Worth taking a look if you are after more pads.

It won't replace Omnisphere or Alchemy, but it is kind of cool in its on way, basic, but it is free.

I think I am going to keep it for now.  I actually liked playing with if for half an hour or so.

EDITED:  Here below is the description the develop provided on their forum:

Alpha Pegasi is sample-based synthesizer. It has four oscillators, each containing 86 instruments in 6 categories. Every OSC has its own Gate, 3 band EQ, Delay, Envelope and Vibrato. There are 4 LFOs that can be routed to any OSC Amp, Pan and EQ. Plugin is designed mostly for Pad and Synth sounds, but due to full-spectrum modulation it can produce miscellaneous atmospheric effects.

Who the f*ck is BebeMic? He registered 3 hours ago and has made 3 nonsense posts in the Software forum since:

"hy! seems to be interesting ;)"

"are you sure it's real?.."

"hmmm."

My guess is he's going to start spamming soon, hoping that having posted before (s)he'll not be recognized as a spamming sock puppet.

https://www.facebook.com/nicoleta.bebemic appears to be a real person, a young lady working for an internet marketing company in Romania. If that's our spammer, she probably ought not to use her real name.
