an error occurred during the move data process: -113

I am trying to reinstall Proaudio 9 but I get the message above and it will not install. I am on Vista but the fact is that Proaudio 9 was installed previously on Vista: working great. I had to uninstall it and now I get this message since I want to reinstall it! Any ideas what is wrong? THanks in advance Roland

I have WinXP so I am less familiar with Win 7. However, with many Windows O.S.'s sometimes it's necessary to do what is called a "clean" uninstall.

This involves opening regedit and in two areas: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software.
Within the "Software" folder of both those locations should be a subfolder named Cakewalk Music Software, or simply Cakewalk. You want to highlight that main Cakewalk folder and delete it. Editting your Registry like this would be step two BTW.

So the actual steps would be to first uninstall Cakewalk as you normally would do, then edit the registry as described above, then go into C:\ Program Files\  and delete the CWAF and Cakewalk folders that might be left behind.

Uninstalling Cakewalk might actually remove all of these items but it's important to make sure and delete them if they are still there.

Then you can restart the PC and install Cakewalk as a fresh install. Hopefully this helps. Also make sure you have any firewalls and Anti-Virus applications disabled when you uninstall and install.

I tried searching for an answer as to what the error code -113 means during a move data process but unfortunately there are no examples that come up. There are results for other error codes of this type, but they would be different due to the different code number.

Microsoft Support database also has no results for the -113 move data process error.

    One other idea.

If it still fails to reinstall, you might try booting into safe mode as the administrator and uninstall and do the same deleting mentioned above, and then restart the PC again to safe mode and reinstall in safe mode. That way there will be less chances of other background apps messing with the install.

Dear Corp, I did the two methods you mentionned...Nothing worked BUT... a big BUT. While using safe mode, this status allowed me to see something I had not seen before, so a PLUS... Ie: Before getting the message "an error occured during the move data process: -113", there is another message hidden by the Cakewalk install windows on my desktop and this is: "error registering the OCX C:\Windows\system32\drmstor.dll". So I made some research and find (bought) a tool (Speedmax) to repair Dlls but it did not work. I run Vista on my laptop with a hardrive containing the Windows Restore program. I tried to use it to restore only the dlls but you cannot. You restore everything or reinstall Windows or nothing! I guess I must be missing this dmstor.dll but do not know how to get it. ideas about this matter?

Roland, Please start over ... uninstall Pro Audio 9 and install Pro Audio in the root directory, not in program files ... Vista is not friendly to Pro Audio in program files. I run Pro Audio on Vista with no problems using this method. Also, it is IMPERATIVE that you disable your anti-virus software ... don't do this and you WILL fail. Let us know how you progress. This is from a site called proaudio support explaining CWAF:

"This utility is able to scan hard drives for missing or misplaced audio. The latest version of the Cakewalk Audio Finder Tool is 3.5. CWAF version 3.5 works with all new SONAR file formats, including SONAR 3 and SONAR 2 per-project data directories."

I have never had to use it myself, but it does install as a separate folder in Program Files. So that's why I mentioned it in performing a clean install.

Hi, Roland, The "root" directory is named C:\ it is the most basic address on the disk drive. To install in this place, put "C:\Pro Audio 9" in the box when asked where to install ... don't accept C:\Program Files\Pro Audio. When you click Okay the installer will tell you that C:\Pro Audio 9 does not exist and ask if you would like to create it. Answer yes and go from there. Don't forget to disable any anti-virus program you have running ... Pro Audio 9 will not install (nor will the 2 subsequent updates) if the AV process is running. HTH Buzz

Roland, we need a little more info in order to help you. First, if you used the quotes around C:\Pro Audio 9 that was my fault ... I should have told you without the quotes. If you did not use the quotes, then what happened as well as you can remember? Do you have Vista's User Account Control active on the computer? If so, you have to disable it while you are trying to install Pro Audio 9. In addition, you should run as administrator during the install. HTH
