another problem since recent windows update (solved)

Hi
Been googling this but no luck, thought one of you guys might help

when I power on my pc from cold I have no sound at all
If I then take the usb cable out of the audio interface and reconnect it then I have sound
if I then do a restart on my pc  I still have sound

The problem seems to be when I disconnect the power from the pc
It was ok before the update
anyone know what could be causing this?
thanks

Have you got 'fast boot' turned on? I have and sometimes my interface will get 'missed' on boot-up.

I've read a few posts about the new update trashing some Audio drivers. The solution is to un install and re install the latest driver.

Thanks for the replies

Funny you should mention Fast boot
After I posted I went into the bios and yes fast boot was enabled - so I disabled
but still no sound
And I have uninstalled and reinstalled the latest 214i drivers again no luck...…….
but thanks for the suggestions

I am not sure it is a recent update issue. On my secondary system I have a Focusrite interface and I have the exact issue for at least a year if not more. I just unplug and re-plug ( with the speakers off ) and I am good to go. I have not found a cure so far so I just deal with it.

Solved ------------  hope this helps you too Schwintone

James you were right -  it wasn't the fast boot in the bios settings
There is a fast startup option in windows system settings, which I have now switched off - which has solved my problem
The new windows update must set the fast startup option to on
For anyone having the same problem I have cut and pasted what I found on the net below

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fast Boot Windows 10

Here's how to turn it on (or off):
  • Open the Settings menu by clicking the Start button and clicking Settings. In the Settings menu, go to System > Power & sleep and click Additional power settings
  • The Power Options window will open. On the left side of the screen, click Choose what the power buttons do.
  • At the bottom of the window, you should see a section called Shutdown settings. In this section, you'll see an option labeled Turn on fast startup…

Glad that solved it. It only happens to me occasionally, but also with a 2i4.

The windows fast boot setting is a "feature" that makes it look like Windows is booting faster than it actually is. It is essentially storing much of the system state in a file on the hard drive, similar to the way that the hibernation feature works. When started using fast boot, the system state reloads from that memory image in the file. A restart takes the system back to begin the boot sequence from the beginning and loads everything anew. With fast boot disabled, a shut down or power down is essentially the same as a restart.
