another strange happening...although a simple answer I'm sure...

Here's the scenario, I open a project which has Superior Drummer 2.0. Before I start playback, I can pull up the SD VST GUI and click on the drums and hear the drum sounds. But...once I play back even a small part of the song and hit stop...I can no longer hear the drum sounds via the SD GUI unless the song in in play mode. In other words, if the song is stopped I have no MIDI info being transmitted. I can hit play and all the MIDI works fine. This only happens after I have played a portion of the song. As long as I don't hit play after opening the project...the MIDI transmits fine from within Superior Drummer's GUI. (This is all within X1, not the stand alone app for SD.)

Sounds like your audio engine is turning off. You can check that by the state of the icon in the lower left corner of the transport module's status window.

Checking "Preferences--->Audio--->Playback & Recording--->Play effect tails after stopping" will stop it turning off after pressing stop.

another track might have been selected accidentally losing focus and input echo .make sure you have input echo lit up on the midi for the soft synth.
there are three states for input echo on midi and soft synth tracks.
    1.off
    2. on when selected. lit up
    3. on all the time lit up different colour. this enables you to stack multible syths at the same time.

    could this be the issue?

have you automated any volume changes on the SD MIDI-track?

what i'm thinking is that you may have automated the volume of the MIDI-track to zero at the begining of the track and that you also have "Zero Controllers When Play Stops" activated in Preferences -> Project -> MIDI

When you open the project the MIDI-controllers are set to default (and therefore you can here the sounds when you click the drums), but after your first play the controllers change to their first value in the project. in your case zero (?)

Just had a chance to get on and check for answers. Thanks to everyone who offered suggestions. FBB...I'm not in the studio at the moment, but I think the audio engine is gonna be the problem. I'll check that as soon as I get to the studio tomorrow. Thanks again...you guys are great...!
