any good recording schools in oklahoma
ok so I live in oklahoma, near oklahoma city, and I know that one of our collages has a program that partners with ACM london but other than that I don't know of anything. I really don't have the time to get a degree right now either, I just started my recording business and got an LLC and stuff so I'm looking more or less for a vocational like school, something like the conservatory at arizona or something. To be honest I could use any help I can get, I got **** for grades in school so scholarships are pretty much out of the question unless I can find a specialized one that's not dependent on grades. If anyone knows of any such schools in oklahoma, or possibly knows some studios willing to teach via internship/apprenticeship, would be willing to take me under their wing via the internet, or anything else they might know... please give me a shout. I'm pretty smart but I'm drowning here.

What exactly are you trying to do? Are you trying to start a recording studio business, or get a job on a mixer board at a studio? The places to do that is where the action is happening..... LA, NY and Nashville come to mind as the big 3 places to be. However, in smaller towns, small studios eke out a living catering to musicians and bands. For a gig like that, I'd think that using your skills with Sonar would be sufficient to get started. Get some gear, mics, etc.... and set up shop doing demo work.

I think mix mag runs a school listing once a year. You might try back issues or their website for it. There were some suprising schools on the list, tho I wasn't looking at OK. North Texas in Denton has a great music school - a bit of a drive but you might find some classes. But if you are starting a recording business and need to go to school about it, sounds like two different things. In the old days most "interned" at a professional studio and learned that way. Times change and it is nigh impossible to get into a pro studio w/o knowing much. and of course there are more recording school graduates than studios, much less openings. Good luck. @

And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them.

I would guess any serious school has a web site. So go googling.
SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre - Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc. The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.

I own a studio, Psych Ward Media LLC, but I'm quickly finding that what I know isn't near enough and need to know much more. I want real instruction but don't need the degree, because I work for myself. I would like some certs to impress clients but don't require it. I did have someone interested in interning me but he fell off the face of the earth or something. Can't get a hold of him. I need something not too expensive because I can't get a student loan cause of bad credit and I made poor grades in high school due to poor decisions and me simply not caring...so academic scholarships are out of the question. I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. My best option would be to find one of those "old days" style internships and just devote 3 or 4 of what would otherwise be work days to internship. Then when I got out I could help that studio out with backloaded projects and I would know how to "do it right". This was my plan with the aforementioned internship but as of now as long as I'm in state I'm open to suggestions.

To impress clients..... hummmm.... a couple of ideas..... Not so ethical....Print up a couple of impressive looking degrees.... no one ever looks at them anyway....hang them on the wall and act like...."pffft....waste of time"... Read a few books ..... Go to a tech school locally that has audio & theatrical classes.... one of the local colleges here actually has a recording studio and offers classes/training as part of the curriculum..... IDK if they just offer the classes apart from the degree program..... but look around, make some calls and see what is available. The only other option is to go where they are offering classes..... but that might be expensive with travel and other related costs. You gotta do what you gotta do to get the training or battle it out with books and internet advice. To say you own a studio means nothing..... hundreds of people "own" studios now.... they range from rank amateurs to professionals who make a decent living at it. Heck....even I now own a studio. Depending where you are on the time line.... you might benefit from posting your work here and get advice or perhaps you are past that point and only setting in with Bob Katz would help...... IDK. Only you can decide which method works best for you. EDIT: Wait... I just found this in another thread..... YOUTUBE has all sorts of good videos that can be very useful... like this>>>>> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-3XWm2SyoOY

heh, bob katz. sounds nice. As an update, one of my clients (we kind of have a trade instead of pay relationship going, she advertises for me, I do work - hopefully the advertising works) told me she has some studio connections and has offered to get me a bit of internship type stuff at a local studio. Cross your fingers, pray, do a good luck dance, or cast a spell for me...whatever it takes to get this.
