anybody using Slate VCC (ver 2) in SONAR Platinum? SONAR not officially supported!

Hi,

I've been using Slate's VCC (Console Emulation) for quite a while in SONAR, and ver 1.5.2 worked perfectly.

The new version 2.0 (incorporated into the VMR rack) works too - but there is one annoying problem. When I clone a new blank track (containing VCC), and start recording a guitar part - the audio is distorted and "choppy". If I close the project and re-open it, it's fine. So SONAR is fine, and VCC is fine - but it seems like a new instantiation (by cloning a track) doesn't work quite right. Maybe the PDC isn't right?
Also - if I just delete VCC, and add it back again (rather than closing the project and re-opening) - it works fine.

This isn't really a big deal - but I thought I'd ask Slate support what they thought. This is what they replied (after not understanding what I was talking about the first time)

"Hi John,
Yes, I understand now. I don't think there is much we can do on our end. Here is a list of our officially supported DAWs: https://slatedigital.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/203716664-Supported-Digital-Audio-Workstations.  "

If you look on that link - SONAR isn't officially supported for any Slate products.
This is a little disconcerting. I just thought I'd share this...

I'm using a lot of Slate stuff, and have had no apparent problems in Sonar Platinum so far. The latest version of VTM crashes Cubase 8 and is unusable in Studio One 2.6.5. Seems to be working in REAPER 5pre20 and Pro Tools 11 though.

I'll try your scenario when I open Sonar next time (unless I forget it).

Slate plugins have always known to be a little (or even a little more) buggy. That's a pity because they really sound nice.

Why they do not officially support Sonar, I don't know.

    Hi stac,
That would be good if you could try it. I've got VCC set to a group - if that has something to do with it...

I think it's goos to tell people, because if there are ever any major bugs or problems - they aren't going to help us :-\

I use VCC v2, Trigger V2 and Virtual Mix Rack (by default as VCC 2 runs in it). So far, it's solid.

With VCC I made a big fuss with the Bakers as well as with Slate, and consequently Steven Slate himself emailed me several times to assure me they would have it all sorted out with the new build as VCC 01 was just a train wreck on many levels, according to his own newsletters.

Wow.  It's unbelievable that Maschine and Bitwig are on the list of Officially Supported DAWs while Sonar is not.

So LJB - can you just clone a track using VMR, and record into it? And it works OK?

    Hi John,
I can't say that I have tried. I suppose I should have read your post better! Sorry! :O)

Wait, I did not try recording ... I just cloned a track with existing audio.

Can't record external audio at the moment (unless you are talking about MIDI).

I've used Slate products for a few years now.  Back with X1 for sure (which I still record with because I prefer track layers over track lanes for editing.  I need to convert, but I don't have time to fiddle around).

Anyways, I use Trigger, VCC/Mix Rack, Virtual Tape Machine, and FG-X.
I use Slate, UAD, and Waves a ton.

I don't recall mixing in X1 due to the passing of time and many projects, but X3 I have had issues.

I would open up fully-mixed session and most of the time VCC would throw a hissy fit and crash the session.  I did submit the crash reports, but after months I gave up doing that.  I was actually afraid to open mixes in front of clients for this reason.  Nothing brings the vibe down like a project refusing to open 75% of the time (true fact).  I eventually contacted Cake, who made a pretty good effort but ended up saying it wasn't their issue that they could see and to reinstall VCC.

Note that this was not the first time I contacted Cake about this issue.  Just seems the last guy I got was willing to put more time into my issue and reply quicker ;)

This contact was around the time when Mix Rack came out, so I updated almost every Slate plugin to their newest version.  I also updated to Sonar Platinum at the same time because I had a weekend without clients coming in and actually had time to do it and not rush.

So far.... no crashes when opening mixes in Platinum!  Platinum crashes happen, often... but seem to not be Slate related.

    My view on support:
UAD and Slate BOTH do not support Sonar.  They will, and have, replied and offered to help.  Slate was unable to help, but they did attempt to do so.  Both are top-end plugins and I'd love it if Cakewalk would push their product on them a bit because we, as users, are left in the cold for choosing Cakewalk and working with high-end plugs from UAD/Slate.
