anyone reasonably proficient with audacity??

Im trying to record 1 track and it keeps opening another track everytime i click record. I realize this is supposed to be some sort of convenience but its actually completely annoying because after i get the settings how i want on a particular track, then i click record, then it starts recording on another track. wtf??  someone please helop, thanks

    This is how audacity records, each new record goes to a new track.

    What is the setting have you done before you start to record ? If it's recording level, etc.. the setting will goes to the new track as well.
