What is it that you wish to learn about? Acoustics? Sound Proofing? Power? Grounding? Interconnections? HVAC? Lighting? Ergonomics? There's a lot that goes into designing a studio. I know of no single book that covers it all, though many try. Here's what you'll find on my book shelf, if that's any help: - Philip Newell - Project Studios: A More Professional Approach, Recording Spaces, Recording Studio Design, Studio Monitor Design - Jeff Cooper - Building A Recording Studio - Phillip Giddings - Audio Systems Design and Installation - Glen Ballou - Handbook for Sound Engineers, Third Edition - John M. Eargle - Music, Sound, and Technology (and everything else he ever wrote!) - Don Davis & Eugene Patronis - Sound System Engineering, Third Edition - Martin Colloms - High Performance Loudspeakers - Trevor J. Cox & Peter D'Antonio - Acoustic Absorbers and Diffusers - Rod Gervais - Home Recording Studio: Build it Like The Pros - F. Alton Everest - Master Handbook of Acoustics - Barry Blesser - Spaces Speak, Are You Listening - Michael Rettinger - Studio Acoustics - Harry Olson - Music, Sound, and Engineering - Leo Beranek - Acoustics

And if you're serious about it, visit the johnlsayers site, where you'll find enough information about design, acoustics, air-con etc to keep you busy for a very long time. http://www.johnlsayers.com/

these are some great resources. if i had one of the recording studios by johnlsayers, i would never be able to leave the studio. these are recording studios that most of us dream we had. but the Gorilla Home Recording book may possibly help me get the best out of my budget home studio. if you know more good material out there, feel free to contribute!

Studio Buddy is a neat little free program that has lots of tips. www.studiobuddy.com If you just Google "home recording" you'll find more resources than you can probably digest in a lifetime. The fundamental problem in trying to write a guide on setting up a home studio is that information becomes outdated fairly quickly. Recording tips will always have merit but hardware comes and goes. At some point you'll have to make decisions based on budget and personal musical preferences. A home studio for rap & hip hop is probably going to look a lot different than a home studio designed for thrash metal bands. Eventually, you'll find the path. You'll make mistakes along the way but if you're cautious and do your homework, you'll minimize the risks. Doesn't hurt to go out and see what other people are doing either. That can be more enlightening than reading about it. Have fun!
