asio driver?
Hi another question. I have my driver set to Asio. I want to switch it to 24 bit instead of 16 but when I click on asio panel it doesnt give me the option. it is set to 16 bit. when I click on 24 bit, nothing happens. any ideas? I was using asio 4 all driver with mc4. I deleted that and am trying to use the driver that came with MC7

Cakewalk does not supply drivers with MC7 (or any of their DAWs). Drivers are supplied by the hardware manufacturers. What are you using for an audio interface?

where it says audio bit driver depth it says 24 bit. It will noy allow me to switch that to 16 bit. its when I click on the ASIO panel it says 16 and wont let me switch to 24 bit sample depth I also have it set for 44100 sample rating

Some ASIO drivers operate at a fixed bit depth. My Presonus is fixed at 32bit. Generally speaking you would not want to run the driver at less than 24bit if possible. The ASIO client software is made by M-Audio and I cannot help you with that. Don't forget that this is just the driver setting, to record at 24bit make sure Preferences > File > Audio Data "Record Bit Depth" is set to 24.

another question, same topic, should I set my playback timing master to M-Audio USB ASIO analog 1/2 Fast Track Pro or M-Audio USB Asio S/PDIF 3/4 fast track pro? for record timing master should I set it to M-Audio USB ASIO line in 1 fast track pro or M-Audio USB ASio S/PDIF in fast track pro?

Ok, I went to where you said and it gives me the option to choose record bit depth to 16,24, or 32 bit. same with render bit depth. for import bit depth it is set to original but also has the option for the 3 different bit rates

M-Audio USB ASIO analog 1/2 Fast Track Pro and M-Audio USB ASIO line in 1 fast track pro unless you are using the S/PDIF connections.

ok, cool. I will keep mine like that too. thanks. for connections I think I am just using a basic RCA audio input cable. I am assuming that is different than the S/PDIF?

The S/PDIF connections are clearly marked in the center back of the interface. I am guessing the RCA connections you are using are connected to the interface outputs. At least this is my best guess based on this picture of the interface.

wow, pictures and everything. you are awesome Steve. I checked the back and I am using output 1 and 2.. No S/DIF. lol. I actually have no clue what S/DIF is or does lol. anyhow, my interface outputs are hopefully fine being that's what I am using. thanks again. This forum is great.

Unless you know what you're doing, you won't ever need to use SPDIF. it's a way to connect devices using a clock to sync them, but it's only 2 channels (usually main output) from one device to another.
