audio different pitch from when recorded

I have a fairly strange symptom and would welcome any suggestions about it.

I created a midi arrangement and recorded it back in to an audio track.
(the midi has 9 tracks... and now 1 additional audio track to record it all back onto.)

I armed the audio track, and did a record. Then exported the audio as a broadcast wave.
When I play the exported audio back (in a different application...e.g.iTunes. )  it is in a lower key.
It seems to be almost a tone lower than the original recording.
An even stranger thing is that the midi arrangement has 9 tracks.  I individually recorded
9 different times, each time having one of the tracks emphasized.  (I have these available for a choir I direct
for them to listen to each of the parts and here there part emphasized compared with all the others. )
Of the 9 tracks,  the issue only happens on half of them... the others,  the recorded  , exported wave file seems
to be the same 'key'  as the original.., the others... I get this strange symptom.

I am using  Essential  X1   (x1b patch)
I have an Echo Audio  IOx   PCI express audio card.

thanks for any suggestions.

(I am about to install the x1c patch..,
although I doubt it has any thing to do with the issue

You're dealing with mismatching sampling rates.  Something recorded at 44.1kHz will be sped up, and hence the pitch will shift up, when played back in an app working with 48kHz, and of course vice versa.

I was already starting to reply to ask if you had an echo device and then re-read your post . . .

Some echo audio devices do this really neat 'trick' where they're actually running at a different sample rate than what they report to SONAR.  The cause of this is usually when SONAR is recording at 96k but then another application on the computer opens up the device at 44.1k (or anything not what SONAR is using) and the driver doesn't tell SONAR the sample rate changed.  There are probably other ways to make it happen - but this is the case that I've seen the most.

    To fix it try this:
    1. fire up your control panel for the card and check the sample rate to make sure its set to the same as your SONAR project.
    2. Once that is done, don't let any other software apps (web browsers, iTunes - anything that makes sound really) open.
    3. Open up the SONAR project and verify that the sample rate in SONAR definitely matches that of your echo control panel.  Give it a listen to make sure all sounds normal still and then try re-exporting
If that fails give us a ring so we can get more info and dig in a bit deeper.

    Thanks Willy for the reply.

I will try your suggestions out.
(getting a bit late here...probably try it tomorrow evening)

    OK...
    Im sure thats the problem.
    The audio settings say.   48.
Sonar X1  is set to 44.1.

I'll make sure they match and try it all again.

    thanks again
