audio problem for new user (Pro 9)

I'm trying to do work on some stereo wave files I've recorded. While I've successfully loaded both channels, only one shows up. If I mute it I still hear the other channel
but it's just one blue blank in both the track and audio windows.
Another thing I've noticed is that no matter where I place the curser the audition in the graphic equalizer starts it's three seconds at the very beginning which in this case
is not helpful.

Any help will be appreciated.

The audition problem is one I had. I haven't fixed it yet but I will tell you what it says. In there somewhere there is a setting to set the length of the audition. I couldn't get it to go from any particular spot. I haven't done it because I don't really need it now but that gives you something to look for. As far as your tracks, what are you recording? Is it music from a disc, live guitar and vocal, or what?

If you select a part of an audio track, the audition will start at the beginning of the selection.
The menu item Options>Global.... has a setting for the length of effects auditions.

Gotcha. Don't just set the curser (line) but select a portion. Thanks again!

    rezmo,
About the stereo recordings. I'm not sure I understand what you are doing. Maybe a simple test is in order.
Create a new ProAudio project (or use the one that appears when you start PA). Select an empty track and then Insert>Wave File...
Navigate to C:\WINDOWS\Media\Windows XP Startup.wav and insert it.
I picked that file because it is fairly large and stereo.

What do you see in the track view for that track?
If you double click the track what do you see?

    Wow guys,
I just received notification that there was a msg on the board answering my question... today! Yes, I did ask for email notification. So I wasn't abandonned to my own devices (thank you).

Thanks for the info on the audition.

Larry, I was loading a live stereo recording (done with Zoom H2). In both the audio and track windows the recording is as if I had selected a blank space. IOW, dim background with nothing in it (except the length of the recording). Clicking on it darkens it more (as a selection).

In the track view, right click in the track pane and select View Options.... Make sure that "Display Clip Contents" is checked.

After double clicking an audio track, the audio view opens. There are controls in the lower right corner of the window to control the horizontal and vertical zooms. Zoom them both down (smaller) to see what happens. If the vertical zoom it set too high, you won't see the audio waveform.

I think there is also an option to NOT display the waveforms (small squiggles) in the track view. I'm still looking for it. Some folks turn it off to save cpu processing.

The audio waveforms displayed in the track view are stored in the Picture Cache. You can find out where your picture cache is by doing Options>Audio... then the Advanced tab. Make sure one is defined. Assuming there is one, you can go there and delete all the files in the folder (they are .WOV files). PA9 will then re-calculate the waveforms as needed. The default size for the picture cache is fairly small but you can define a different size. Mine is 200MB. I think PA9 can mess up if the cache fills up.

To change the picture cache size: Exit PA9. Go to the Cakewalk install folder (something like C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Cakewalk Pro Audio 9) and look for file AUD.INI Make a backup copy. Then Right-click AUD.INI and open it with Notepad. There should be a line like
PicCacheMB=nn which defines a nnMB max. Mine says PicCacheMB=200

Save and close the AUD.INI file and start up PA9.

    Good Luck.
