backing up registry keys

Hello,
I am upgrading from Sonar 4 PE to 5 PE, and Cakewalk advised me to go into regedit and make some changes. They advised me to backup my registry keys separately from backing up my registry file, before making these changes. Does anyone know how to back up the keys? Thanks you for your help.

hi have lost the links but i have this document that explain how to process to backup the registry keys:
    1. Select Start>Shutdown.
    2. Select Restart in MS-DOS mode, and click OK.
    3. At the WINDOWS prompt, type SCANREG /BACKUP (be sure there is a space between SCANREG and /BACKUP).
    4. At the WINDOWS prompt, type WIN to restart Windows.

If you get into trouble and you need to restore the Registry, do the following:

    1. Select Start>Shutdown.
    2. Select Restart in MS-DOS mode, and click OK.
    3. At the WINDOWS prompt, type SCANREG /RESTORE (again, be sure there is a space between SCANREG and /RESTORE).
    4. Select the first file in the list that appears, and hit ENTER on your computer keyboard.
    5. Restart your computer when prompted.

You don't have to go out to DOS to backup things like the Cakewalk stuff. You can do this with regedit in windows. Just highlight the reg key you want to back up, right click, choose export and save it as a .reg file.

If you screw up later and need to restore, just go back (in regedit) and delete the key you backed up, click on the .reg file that you made earlier, and your settings will be back (you can go into regedit and see).

Don't mess with the registry if you're not comfortable though - you *can* screw up here...
