bad sound

whenever i play my recordings in GTP3 it sounds pretty good, but when i play it in windows media player i get all this nasty noise and bad sound. i want to get good sound in WMP and i was wonderin if u guys could give me some tips on what i could do. is it too much guitar dist. or too high input level? any tips that u guys use when u record would be great.
