basement studio

I recently moved to Connecticut. Just wondering how small it would be to leave my computer and GuitarPort down there with the cold. (YES I know better than to leave my guitars down there!!)

Most electronics will operate just fine all the way down to freezing.  Condensation is the main problem, and if your gear isn't going from the cold into a warm, humid room you're fine.

How cold does it get in your basement?

Being from CT and having a basement studio myself I have not run into problems as of yet.  In the summer time I do keep a dehumidifier on next to the instruments and computer.

Sorry it took so long to answer-they moved the post and I just remembered!
It "maybe " got down to 40-the cheap thermometer I had said 61. I haven't had any problems yet-seems dry and well made down there. Now being in the 60-70's it should ok. Thanks!

De-humidifier?  Same as anything, not too cheap, not top end.  Keep in mind they're noisy though... you'll have to keep it away from the recording space or turn it off while tracking quiet stuff.

I'm not sure if they build whisper quiet De-Humidifiers, mine is most certainly not.  Mine sounds like a 1970 pickup truck starting.  I turn it off while recording.

..."There's a laaady who's sure - all that glitters is gol.... 'VRROOMBRTRTRT"

Ya, it could really mess up the 'moment' during a session if you leave it on.

Aren't dehumidifiers BIG power draws as well? Of course, mine's at least 25 years old, maybe they got better.

Thanks! My 'puter is very old/slow so all this may not be an issue-but i am looking at different models. I'll have to turn it off-there's only ONE outlet down there.
