Sony Sound Forge. Sonar does not include a full featured wav (clip) editor. Sound Forge works with Sonar and appears on the Tools menu. Sonar even transfers your selection within a clip to Sound Forge if there is one, then automatically import the new version when you are done if you answer yes. Slickest thing I've seen in the audio world. Sound Forge is also good for mastering. And if you get the bundle with CD Architect then you have a complete solution from tracking to CD.

Well - Sonar is an application that runs in a DAW - so my guess is that you are wanting to find the best DAW you can afford ! Start with the best building block basics then we can help you guess the rest!

ORIGINAL: SteveJL ... and the Trusty Lava Lamp You know as common as those things are in studios you would think there would be a sound activated version that blinked to the beat. Or maybe just put a MIDI in on the thing so you can feed a click track to it to help the drummer keep time. You could just embed some LEDs in the case around the jar so the light bulp could stay on steady to keep the temp right. Oh ! here is another idea, use one of those solid state CPU coolers in reverse to heat the bottom so you wouldn't even need a bulb ! Or for that matter design a PC case so the jar could be placed directly on the CPU and let the PC heat it.

Frank, for your mastering do you use Sound Forge's own tools or do you use third-party VST plugins inside SF, or some combination...?

Frank, for your mastering do you use Sound Forge's own tools or do you use third-party VST plugins inside SF, or some combination...? It's very rare that I have to use a third party plugin and never on my own mixes. I use normalize, volume reduction for manual selection of peaks, the graphic dynamics with a hard limiter setting or 1 or 2 db, fade in and fade out, resample, and bit reduce. That's about it. If it needs any more then that I remix. Now, if I'm clip editing there are other tools I use like the pencil, noise gate, smooth / enhance, and maybe even a plugin like autotune (the shame... ) or raygun. The other stuff and plugins come in handy for the odd restoration project or gag fake live version of a song. The other thing I love is that it reads and writes almost every file format on the planet and some that haven't even been used yet.. LOL !
