bit meter, what the heck does it do or tell ya
Just loaded up bit meter, don't know why, maybe cuz I never used it before. I put it on float, as I was told float is best What can I decypher from the blinking lights? Does it really tell you anything useful?

What can I decypher from the blinking lights? Does it really tell you anything useful? IMO, not much. Here is what the Sonar 8.5 Reference Guide (page 1042) says about BitMeter: "See the benefits of SONAR's 64-bit audio engine in action with the Bit Meter VST plug-in: . A valuable tool for monitoring the digital activity of your audio stream. View output word length, dynamic range, signal peaks, and more to analyze the quality of your digital signal." Good luck.

With it, you can tell if you're working with 16- or 24-bit data. That's about it. A lava lamp works much better as visual entertainment.

I never understood why the bitmeter or any bitmeter for that matter doesn't flicker all the way up to 64 when working in Sonar 64 with 64-bit double precision checked. And why nobody else ever noticed that

So may be this is related to Sonar 8 and below? Ever since I could remember, and 64-bit was available inSonar, it never shows up like that. So quesiton is, is this a bug or did previous sonar versions not truly work at 64-bit???? Seeing that other 3rd party bit meters show the same as the cakewalk bitmeter, something now seems kinda fishy here

Possibly. Current Bitmeter.dll shows last modified 3/11/2011, v 1.1.240. The only thing I really use it for is to confirm nulling of signals that are supposed to be identical, so I'm usually looking at no signal, or a very tiny signal, and I often leave it in 24-bit mode because the noise level of a project with an analog input or even some plug-ins (e.g. Boost11) in it will already be turning on the first couple of 24-bit bits at idle.

well, the revision date there is definitely interesting [EDIT] ... it seems it is the plugin issue so that's a relief!!! Thanks for that bit of insight of the revision brundlefly, that was a big help
