bit/sample rate change? General Q's

Can I change the bit and sample rate on a project I already started? My PC is straining at 24/96k and I don't want to start the project over.

What improves performance more? adding RAM or do I need to upgrade the processor? I have a 2.5gig P4 with 1Gig RAM
the status bar during the project reads: 68% for the processor use and up to 50% on the disk use during playback.... Then playback keeps stopping like the PC is overloaded. Not sure if it is a processor or RAM issue.

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks,
Steve

I think you have plenty of horsepower- I'm running fine on a Toshiba Tecra P4, 1.70 GHZ with 768 MB ram and I'm not seeing dropouts.

A couple ideas - run the defrag utility, these sound files get huge. Also take a gander at what processes you have running in the background that may be stealing CPU power.
