[blog] Native VST support
Can anyone explain what native VST support brings to the table? The DX-VST wrapper has always worked fine for me, so unless there are tangible CPU or memory benefits I can't see what the big deal is.

The DX-VST wrapper has always worked fine for me, so unless there are tangible CPU or memory benefits I can't see what the big deal is. The SONARites called for this one and the bakers delivered @ SONAR 6 am. The integration to me seems like everything works the same except the gui is now SONAR. Personally, my UAD card is working better in P5v2 w/the wrapper than in SONAR 6 w/the integrated (i.e., no visible gui) wrapper. have a good one 3Eo

ORIGINAL: ATS mean it will work a hell of allot better. It has given me plenty of problems, that's all I know. I wouldn't be surprised if you still encounter the same problems with the internal support as you do with the adapter. The biggest advantage of the new VST support (if it is like Sonar), is the ability to manage and organise the plugins within P5 and that the VST plugins are no longer wrapped, so they will no longer show up in other DX applications in their DX plugin lists.

The management was the biggest issue for me of using the wrapper. I prefer to customize my plugin menu by catagory ... equalizers, dynamics, filters, etc. ... even before the new plugin manager of Sonar 6. When you did this with the wrapped dx plug, every time you scanned for dx plugs (new plugs or updated .dll's) the manager would reset to the default names of those dx plugs. It was a nightmare organizing and them keeping them organized. Native VST support solves this. I think it was a great addition.

I recently installed the most current VST adapter (against my better instincts) and lost the use of my CamelAudio plugins. Tempo synced box was checked and I could even get them working if they were used only on audio. But any synth I tried them on....forget it. The VST wrapper sux. Sorry...It just does, for me anyways. I reinstalled P5 again (cuz there's no option to install the wrapper only) and made sure I didnt install any synths or plugins (just program files). After throwing the 2.01 patch on, I was good to go again. I wonder if the VST wrapper isn't the cause for many of P5ers problems?

Native VST support makes you more buzzword compliant. As long as it remains DXi compliant I'm okay with it. Just doesn't have the same buzz though.
I have authentic analog drum machine samples.

If they are simply porting Sonar 6's inplementation of VST support, it will not fix my problem. I still find VSTi's that are not compatible with Cakewalk. The Korg Legacy Collection - Digital Edition VST is one of them. Sonar (all versions including 6) cannot see anything but the first bank of sounds in the M1 and Wavestation softsynths.

ORIGINAL: Digital Aura I wonder if the VST wrapper isn't the cause for many of P5ers problems? Which is quite possible and why it irks me to see people immediately blaming the host or wrapper for problems they encounter. See [this] thread at KvR about another host (Phrazor) that received a royal slagging from someone about problems they had with it and how badly coded it must be because they had problems...in the end, it was that person's soundcard that was the issue. I mentioned a z3ta+ problem I had with the adapter and found out it was [an older] version of Sytrus that was causing the error message. This is why the integrated VST support isn't likely to resolve things for people who currently have issues, as it appears the integrated support is still the wrapper code, just without the DX conversion.

Uh, I think he was saying that maybe the wrapper IS the problem...

I guess you can interpret the sentence either way (if you play it loose with the English language), although the correct interpretation of the above question is that it is not the cause for most P5 problems, otherwise it should have read: "I wonder if the VST wrapper is the cause for many of P5ers problems?"
