bought a used KSM44
bought a used KSM44 mint condition, looks like it had never been used. i really like it. ONE OF THE REASONS I BOUGHT IT, WAS BECAUSE IT HAS 3 polar patterns available.. HEHEH did some prelim quicky recording with it... a short little tune, with 4 acoustic guitar tracks, and 3 vocal tracks. funny thing... when i first hooked it up, and set up the preamp and signals and all, i was a bit distracted... and when i recorded the 1st two tracks (main acoustic rhythm parts left and right panned).... --- it sounded great. i KNEW..... that my levels seemed off... i was running the preamp harder than i thought i should be... i happily went along with the first two tracks, decided to do vox, and when i went to put the 80hz rolloff on, i realized the damn mic was backwards..... LOL i had the mic backwards, in cardoid position that's when i knew i had a hold of a nice mic.

HAHAHA! I can't tell you how many times I've done that... To the point that I'm considering putting a Hello Kitty sticker on the front (That seems to be the only option in the house, as the Hendrix sticker that isn't attached to something is about 4 timer too big). I love being able to pick my patterns, although I don't have a KSM44... but my AT2050, does the same thing. Totally great for when I need to do different things and I'm pretty much a one-mic girl. So.... Did you re-record the first few tracks? :D

MIKE- THANKS.... i'm sure i will. julibee hehe.. a sticker. that's what i need, a little sticker, that says 'this side, stupid.' LOL well, the point of my little post, was that it sounded so good 'backwards', that i didn't need to re-record it. heheh..........it sounded that good.. i'll post a little snippet in just a bit.... karyn not all mics, but this one has a dual element. so, if i had it in the 'OMNI' or 'BI-DIRECTIONAL' positionS, it would have been just fine. BIT- point taken. LOL ubiquit hehe i'll just walk around to the other side of the mic stand next time.

how much did you pay for it Gonzo? I have the KSM-27 which is the same mic but with only the cardioid element. I've wanted the KSM-44, but it's out of my "threshold of pain" price range.

The KSM-44 has been my primary vocal mic for about 4 or 5 years. It has only one fatal flaw: it makes me sound exactly like me.

Beagle I won this on an ebay bid. i paid $500, it's used, but looks like it's never been touched. buying used mics off of ebay is always taking a chance.. but this was a very smooth deal. bit- LOL i know what you mean, about it being very honest with it's capture.

I paid $150 for my KSM-27 which is also 1/2 price and it's in great shape except for the shock mount.

beagle- WELL, it was about time for me to up my ante with a 'better than average' mic. i mean, i love my 57....... but it REALLY makes a big difference. i think it's the number one equipment choice. i just couldn't afford a brand new one, so i rolled the dice.
