boy, my new album has spun me around!

i mean, i've been working on this thing for a long time...
little by little...
and i thought it was all ready, but i was wrong!

i'm having Falcon Eddy Mastering Studio do the final mastering on this..
and thru the process (falcon eddy is being SO patient), i keep finding things i just have to change,
and i guess the lesson is, when producing yourself,

get as far away from it as you can get!!!

LOL
then, come back.

having someone else do the mastering sure helps me wear the other hat.

last song is getting proofed tonight....
final 16-bit redbook standard files being uploaded for cd duplication tomorrow night.

Hi,

Whoooottsss ... when do we get to hear it?

Music is not about notes and chords! My poem is not about the computer or monitor or letters! It's about how I was able to translate it from my insides!

Hi,
Whoooottsss ... when do we get to hear it?

well, i've posted demo level versions of the entire thing right here in the songs forum,
off and on over the last 3-4 years..

i'm uploading the final files tonight,
to CDBaby,
for digital sales and distribution
and to the cd duplicators,
for physical cd's to sale.....

they sound really sweet.

album artwork is done,
professionally mastered,
it's a sort of 'concept' album, so it has a running thread going thru all the songs...

even includes a collaboration with WOOKIEE, who gets co-writing credits on that one, it was his music and arrangement to begin with,
and i added guitars to it, as an instrumental..

but i was so enamored with the structure of the song, i heard a vocal treatment,
wrote lyrics and melody, and went to town!!
LOL

it's the closing song on the album.

......album is called "Stay".

heh! well thanks bill....

but doing this album,
getting it all pulled together, in one cohesive event,
has been trickier than my previous albums have been......

even the first one, which was for an actual record company (now defunct.... of course!) wasn't as tough as this one.

this one covers a pretty tough chapter in the life,
maybe that's what made it harder.

well, uploaded EVERYTHING to cdbaby today...
it's a bit of a weird process,
but the software they use, for you to dump your individual files into,
builds an iso image, lets you burn a 'test' cd right off the image it is uploading,
and check it all, before finalizing the upload..
THAT is kinda cool!

if anybody wants to talk about the cdbaby side of it,
feel free to throw out questions or PM me

So CDBaby wants to build the ISO image for you from individual song files? Does that mean you can't send them a finished image? Does that mean you can't have a contiguous (gapless) CD?

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

Thanks for that, jimmy!
the final product is definitely a step up from the demos....

mostly, it's the being 'forced' into making final decisions, even if a deadline is self imposed,
that focuses the mind..
it'll be about 3 weeks before i have the discs.

hey bit..

the program they use is created by Sonoris...

it's called "DDP Creator"

here is some info:

The Sonoris DDP Creator is a standalone cross-platform CD authoring application compatible with virtually any DAW software on the market. The DDP Creator lets you assemble professional RedBook compatible audio CD's and supports the import and export of DDP 2.00 images and Cue Sheet (cue) files. It also enables you to burn and rip audio CD's and send off images with FTP.

http://www.sonorissoftware.com/catalog/ddp-creator-p-47.html

they make a ISO, IMG disc image of your CD-ROM.....
also, you have the option of uploading directly off of your master cd.....

or, you can mail it in.

Re: boy, my new album has spun me around! 2015/10/23 17:38:12 (permalink)
with cdbaby, you can sell the physical cds,
or buy digital downloads...
i think the 'digital download' are 320kbps mp3's (or the highest VBR they have)....

but i've been toying with the idea of creating my own MP3's directly from my 24-bit non-dithered masters..
i can do it easily in WAVELAB, and then offer them for free to anyone who buys the cd......

but i don't really know how to go about burning mp3's from 24 bit files WITHOUT dithering....
doesn't it boil down to the fact that i don't need dithering, if i'm not down-sampling for redbook format?

i'll tell you, the masters at 24 bit sound some much more vibrant to me than the typical 16bit-44.1khz cd's.....

Also consider selling them in FLAC format. There are a lot of people now who are actively searching for lossless content (just as there is a market for people who'll snag anything on vinyl). You can do a FLAC export directly from SONAR.

Downloads now available in MP3 320 and FLAC files!

heheh, at least that's what's on the website main page.....

i will also give folks that buy the album 24 bit master files for free, if they want them.
those sound REALLY good.

the difference is so obvious,
i just can't believe there are folks that can't hear it.

your song is a great addition to the collection of songs,
rounds out the 'concept' part of it....
thanks again!

folks, if you read this, and didn't already know, Wookiee asked me to collab on an instrumental,
and with his permission, i wrote a melody and lyrics for it, renamed it,
and I use it as the closing song on my new album.

hope you all get a chance to hear it, it's good.

you know, i got physical discs on the way now....
gonna release next wednesday...

and i'm doing digital as well.....
i think the easiest deal, is downloading directly from cdbaby,
cuz they offer FLAC files as well as mp3,
i think most of the other dealers only do mp3 (i guess itunes would have to be aiff?)

cdbaby does a digital partnering deal, with these guys:

Apple iTunes---Spotify---Rhapsody---Google Music Store---YouTube Music---eMusic-- Amazon

and THESE guys, tho i've never heard of any of them....
