building tempo maps

This is the biggest pain in my arse. But I find if I do not do the work on the front end? I pay for it on the back end... Are there any tricks? I know about using Melodyne to extract tempo, but it's not a smooth process because other information is there, even if you try to filter it.

Hi David - thanks for posting this. I intended to try this out when i first read the article but never got to it. Your Maestrolizer looks brilliant. I know you expressed your views in the article but I would love to see this as an MFX for sonar - ( somebody like Markelford could whip it up quickly I would think. Don't know if he could generate enough in donations to make it worth his while.)
Cheers and thanks again. Great idea.

My pleasure.  My greatest motivation for writing this code was for my own use, but I'm more than happy to share.  I switched from SONAR to Cubase because Cubase does a bit better with tempo all around.  Cubase has a function to turn a click track into a tempo map like Maestrolizer, but it only works for quarter and eighth notes and it plops the tempo map at the start of the track without any option to insert it elsewhere.  So even after the switch I'm finding a use for this thing.

Maestrolizer seems like it will be very useful! I've downloaded it and will give it a try. I also have Notion which is a hybrid notation software program. It has a Tempo track that you can use to change the tempo in real time. When the score is exported in midi, it contains the tempo map.

I think Maestrolizer might even work better for me.
