cakewalk instruments

I've just purchased the cake walk 7.0 homestudioXL. I want to know if I can program the Cakewalk TSS-1 drumkit to use with my computer's keyboard, or do I need to buy another piece of hardware, like a midi touch pad. Basically I just want to make my own drum beats.
If I can do this or if I have to buy a midi touch pad, how do I assign the pads to the sounds I want?

Thanks for helping.

    Adam,

if you have a mouse, you can "program" new sounds. Having knobs and faders are nice if you want to use them in real time to "play" with the synth's sound - old style like a minimoog, etc.
