can i record si drums by clicking the virtual kit with a mouse?
Yeah, I just find I have more control of the sound with the mouse opposed to using midi keyboard or step sequencer, and even my crap midi drums, yet it wont record it when just clicking on the virtual drums with the mouse?

The drum kit just like the keyboard on a lot of synths in intended for auditioning sounds. That said, it is possible to record the result using synth audio recording. Note: clicking on the UI creates audio data only. If you wish to create MIDI data using a mouse, use the virtual controller.

Short answer: No If you are talking about hitting the virtual drums GUI kit to play sounds with a mouse, that's not going to happen.

Of course it is possible. Read the link I posted about synth audio recording. It was added in September 2015.

Hmmmm, so you can record vsti drums with just a mouse by hitting the drums in the vsti's UI? I didn't know that. Guess I just learned something.

It is possible to record the output of any plug-in. For synths, synth audio recording works. Aux tracks (or any track driven by a patch point) can record any audio generated in SONAR.

OP....how about getting an inexpensive outboard drum pad set. You could really do your own drums.

Yes you can, without any special routing either: Open up SI Drums with both a midi and audio track. Arm the audio track, mouse to your heart's content. Drag the finished audio file to the midi track. Wait for Sonar to do its thing. Your audio is now midi. You can move the notes around in Piano Roll. Caution: You may have to relocate the resultant midi drums to different notes on the piano roll. I recorded the snare and Sonar put them on A5 instead of D3. On A5 you will hear nothing. On D3 I heard the snare.

If you have a drum machine you can use the pads to trigger SI drums. But to be perfectly honest, the best way to map out drums in Sonar or any other DAW is using the Piano roll view (PRV) its not only easy, but it gives you complete control. Every drum can be exactly where its supposed to be or can be made humanized. Here is another one using SI drums
