can you run Music Creator on Windows 7 ? input and output doesn't even display at all
Hello I recently upgraded my laptop to Windows 7 and Music Creator won't play or record anything. When I go to Option/Audio, I select my Line6 GX (soundcard) as the input : it's in blue. I quit MC and start it again so the change is taken into account. Then, when I want to select the input on a given track, Line6 appears like greyed out, I can't click it ! The only choice is nothing, so I can't record anything. In addition, my usual line out, which is the by-default Microsoft soundcard, doesn't display at all in Option/Audio. Which makes it impossible to listen anything through MC. To finish with, I can't open any of the track I had recorded on Windows XP. It says that the name of the file has changed. My question is, can you run Music Creator (version 1) on Windows 7 ? or is it just too old and can't work ? Thanks for any clue you may have.

MC1? I would be very surprised if MC1 would work on win7. we've had people who can't get MC3 or MCPro to work on win7. on a side note, you shouldn't be using your onboard soundcard as output and your line 6 as input. that will cause you sync problems. they're 2 different clocks. use the line6 exclusively and plug speakers or headphones into it. try changing to MME driver mode (I think MC1 probably only had WDM and MME). if it's similar to later versions of MC, it will be in OPTIONS>AUDIO somewhere. after changing it, restart MC and let the wave profiler run. as far as the name of the file being changed from winxp - that sounds pretty weird - I've never seen that problem before.

Way back then, Cakewalk used the file extensions .wrk for project files and .bun for bundle files. Around 2004 they changed those extensions to .cwp and .cwb respectively. In my experience, I was able to open those older projects in my newer programs, but if you save those projects in the new MC, they can't be opened in the old MC. You might be seeing that message. It should open, if MC 1 (?) can be opened at all. Shucks, you got a new computer OS; why not dole out the 50 bucks for MC 6?

Ignore my previous post (#3). That would apply only if you load a new MC on the computer, which, if you come into the 21st century and get MC 6, then it will apply. Worth it just for the VST support. So, right-click the MC icon on the desktop and run the compatibility wizard, although that didn't work for my MC Pro 24. It did for SONAR Home Studio 6.

Updating MC to the latest MC6 will also get you some really sweet sounds.... Like the Sound Center will all it's sampled sounds.... no midi sounding stuff there! It's worth the upgrade cost by itself IMHO.
