If the wave profiler ran and the Uno shows up as a valid MIDI port, are you using a MIDI track or an audio track? Are the MIDI cords connected in-to-out and out-to-in? Are you selecting the correct input for each MIDI track? It should be something like "Uno USB MIDI in". Are you arming the MIDI track and then clicking the record button?
Some folks have had trouble with the Uno, and Yamahas often do not work well with MIDI-to-USB converters that are not made by Yamaha.
If you would describe the steps you've tried already, and list the input and output options in the MIDI track's properties, that will help.

    A PM from steveo567 123:
yeah we tryed every possible output and input we have also re plugged the usb in different slots and we made sure it was on a midi track
we are making sure its armed to record for track property were using the usb uno midin in and for out were using usb midi out im going to try to get some yamaha cables tommorow to see . but any more suggestions would be great cuz i dont like to spend money lol .

Make sure on the keyboard that the out plug is in the in hole and the in plug is in the out.
I'm not sure of any specific settings on your piano for outputting MIDI. My Yamaha has no settings in that regard, just plug-n-play.

If you'll post your replies in this forum, more people will see and possibly offer suggestions on how to get it to work. I'm not Cakewalk, just another user trying to help.
So it could be the Uno, since a recent user of that device also had trouble. It could be incorrect drivers for the Uno; did you go to their web site and download the latest drivers?
It could be the non-Yamaha MIDI-to-USB converter.
You MIDI track properties should look a little like this:

Where my input reads 'In MIDI Omni'. yours should be something similar, but with 'Uno USB' in it. The output should be back to the Uno/USB if you want your piano to play the MIDI.
Select a channel, but since you're using a Yamaha Digital Piano, your patch selection will be limited to the instruments the piano has, so if you choose a patch called 'shamisen' you'll probably hear 'piano'.

I don't mean to sound sarcastic.... but, you're not the only one. The UNO is a hit and miss proposition when it comes to recording midi... unfortunatly, mostly miss.

I would recommend that you look into returning it to the store you bought it from, and spend a little (or alot) more money to get a decent external recording interface....audio & midi in one unit. USB is OK but Firewire is better.

We have, from time to time, tried to help people here with the UNO... it all depends on the computer, but most are not very successful in getting the UNO to work properly.

My recommendation, UPGRADE.... look at Beagle's personal site and check out the comparison charts on soundcards. Find something that works for you...features & price.

Keep in mind this tidbit of information..... the sound card/interface is the HEART of your recording setup. Get something decent, even if it stretches your budget a bit.... you will not regret buying a nice soundcard/interface 6 months from now.

I searched your keyboard online and discovered it isn't just a digital piano, but a standard MIDI keyboard, so maybe you will hear shamisen when you select shamisen. It's similar to my keyboard.
    Had any luck yet?

the future - you really should post in a new thread instead of bringing up a 2 year old thread.

you'll need to give us more info on your system, your soundcard, your operating system, which version of cakewalk you're using and what you were using for OUTPUT of your MIDI before it stopped working.

one side note while the thread is up again, on Herb's point of firewire being better, this is true, but not if you do not have a TI chipset to run the firewire it can be difficult to get to run.

from what I'm seeing.... firewire looks like it might be headed to extinction at some point due to USB3

Yeah from what i have seen and heard you are fortunate there Greg, But I feel sometimes it is in the patience of the setup. What i do like about Firewire is that it leaves the USB ports for other jobs.

Herb i saw something on that the other day as well. I used to be that USB was only stereo but now there are a ton of USB interface with 8 inputs. I still think like you that in the long run setup right firewire is better since it does not become accumulative like USB does.
