can't see waveform

I unplugged the computer by mistake. Luckily I had saved the file, but when I re-opened it I couldn't see the waveforms. I can hear the tracks and the files are in audio data but no visual. What could this be?

It's a little known fact that if you accidentally unplug your computer on the first Thurday of October, and it happens to follow a new moon, you will lose the waveform graphic.
    Step away from the computer.
Immediately arrange 10 candles in a circle, and sacrifice a medium size chicken.
If said Thursday also happens to be the 2nd day of the month, you may need to put on a bathrobe and fuzzy slippers(must be pink), and run around the outside of your house three times.
After this, you should have the visual vaveform back.

Or you could delete the data in your picture cache.

The wave forms are stored in the picture cash, if you delete them, m/c will have to redraw them, so they are not lost, just misplaced. Or confused.
Strange that this shoud happen just from unplugging the machine, and even at that, they should have re-generated, but the work around should solve the problem.
Not sure about the chicken sacrifice, though. Maybe you should cover the keyboard with plastic first...

I've only lost the waveform in one file. It's still there for all the other songs. Not sure exactly whatcha mean in your instructions on how to get it back for this song?

If it's just one file, you can probably use a smaller chicken.

Look in your Cakewalk program files. You should saee a folder labeled pic cache. Delete the contents of this folder.
I'm still at work, but I'll be home in an hour or two, if you haven't got it back by then.

    Absolutely!!!!

Horus, as Albert mentioned, sometimes the software gets a bit confused. Random events can cause zero's to be written where one's should be.
Losing power with files open is potentially catastrophic, with wild voltage fluctuations as the energy in the motherboard dissipates.
By the way, when this happens, wait at least a full minute before you power up again. Energy is stored in some components (capacitors) on the motherboard, and if you power up before they are fully discharged, you can do some real damage.
At any rate, many paths occasionally lose their way, for no apparent reason. I have to tickle my soft synths from time to time, to re-establish a signal path.
Deleting the picture files of the wave forms forces MC to redraw them. This is usually best.
You can also bounce the track, and the waveform will be drawn for the new track. Depending on where you are in the editing process, this may or may not be a good solution.
You can navigate to the pic cache folder from Windows Explorer. Delete only the contents, not the folder itself.

You can also use a henway.

I googled henway; "What's a henway? About 5 pounds" was one of the answers.
