You need to save the project as a bundle (from the type menu in save window). . The Cakewalk bundle file contains all the required information (both audio and midi) for opening the project in Sonar. Once it's saved as bundle on your computer, burn a data CD with it.

You can save as a bundle, or if you're using Per-Project Folders, you can just save the project folder to disc. I prefer the PPF way in case a file corrupts. With PPF, if a file corrupts, you're only missing one file. Most of the project will still be there. With a bundle, it's all in one. If it corrupts, it's gone. Other than that, they're both good ways to put a project to disc.

Also, bundle files are good for storing projects, however, if you need to work on a project, it is better to open a cwp project instead. Performance is better.

I need to chime in to Highly recommend you don't save to Bundles. There is No need to use that method, and potential danger, as Slugbaby pointed out. Saving your projects to their own folders is so easy and organized. That's what you archive, with each song folder having the cwp file, and a sub-folder for the individual audio tracks. No fuss for you to work on the project more later, or for a collaborator to work on any or all tracks. Randy rbowser

I've been usiong that method for almost three years with more than 150 projects which I then compress in WINRAR before storing. Never had any issues with it. Files don't get corrupted because you stored them in bun format. They get corrupted (if ever) when you open and run the project file and something gets wrong at that time. As long as you save as bundle, test the bundle fine that was saved OK and keep it stored, there shouldn't be any problems, at least this is what statistics say from my experience.

That's excellent, Boten. It's reassuring to know that based on your experience of using Bundles for 3 years now, that you've never had a problem. So we have two valid methods for archiving projects, with each method resulting in files which are the same size--either the Bundle, or moving a project folder on to a CD/DVD disc. Which method we use is purely a matter of personal preference. For me, simply moving the folder which already exists on to a DVD works great, and the archived files are ready for me or anyone I want to share the project with to open and work with some more if the occasion arises. May be I'll try it next time . The reason I became a bun user is because three years ago the per folder option in HOme Studio was not available, so it became very complicated at that time.

The bundle corruption issue is only "Potential." Until recently, I spent a couple of years saving projects to bundles as well, and never had a problem. ps. Rbowser, your avatar looks EXACTLY like an old friend of mine. But I'm assuming you're not a talentless, gay, crack addict in Toronto... But the resemblance surprises me everytime I see your posts.

"...The reason I became a bun user is because three years ago the per folder option in HOme Studio was not available, so it became very complicated at that time..." Ah! Of course, makes total sense. Because of the added Per Project feature is probably why some folks at the Sonar Forum have even described the Bundle files as "out-moded." I wouldn't go that far. As you've said, they work fine. If for some reason you need to work more on a "closed" project, it just takes a little bit of time to open the bun again. You might want to try just plopping in the whole project folder, it really doesn't make too much difference I guess! Randy rbowser
