cheap software megastore... a crack store?
Hi-
While researching internet prices, I came across a site called cheap software megastore. They are offering various music software at unbelievable prices. My question is if they are selling the software as programs that were purchased and then returned. They claim to have both download and discs available...the discs with manuals. I'm sure that this must be illegal, but can someone put this baby to bed for me?

If it's the site I'm thinking of, read their FAQ and you'll probably see that the software cannot be registered and some other dead give-aways, including the term Warez.

Cakewalk....please check this site out... I just found Sonar 5 on there for $55 for a download and $110 for the disc

Report them to the FBI. Im sure they will be interested. Just send an email with the link explaining what you see and you think it might need investigated. IIRC the FBI take piracy pretty seriously.

I read the F.A.Q. and here's what the first question is
What you can say about your Cheap Software Store?
Our site is a warez shop, all software that needs registration is opened or has serial numbers. You can use it on any computers you want.
There ya go, 100% cold-blooded warez. On a side note, keep reading the other questions asked, the abhored broken english is quite funny at some parts (You have bad download your order)

I hope someday there'll be some sort of International Internet law enforcement in which countries that don't apply those laws would be cut off from the net entirely! That'd certainly take care of shell accounts that hackers use, piracy direct-download sites, etc....

Warez refers primarily to copyrighted material traded in violation of copyright law. There appears to be something of a grey area regarding this sort of thing in Russia.
There's an equivalent selling MP3s for around $1.49 an album.

I'm pretty sure that Network Solutions can shut them down. Or at least force them to find another company to host their site. The site is registered to someone in Russia but it is entirely possible that it is actually hosted in the USA by Network Solutions. In any case, Cakewalk should have their lawyer contact them immediately.

Especially if you wanted to go the pirate route, then 55$ is way to expensive when you have the whole net to look through. 55 dollars for a download you could find for free if you really , really looked is kind of expensive.
Get the proper versions and support your DAW/synth etc manufacturer of choice. Cant afford to buy a decent DAW, then use one of the decent free ones. The world is your oyster when it comes to software nowadays. I always wonder why most computers have Adobe Photoshop installed. When for the majority of the people using it (IE the ones that didnt actually buy it) could get away with using The Gimp, Similarly with MS Office and Open Office.
The way I look at it is you cant afford it then you should be supporting the free/freeware/shareware programmers whose products are very often nearly as astounding as the $400 soft synths you can get.
