codec issues?
Hi everyone, Any ideas what could cause this: I have a 4 minute 24/48 synth only project...I rendered it a month ago (24/48 wav) and it played as expected. I re-opened the project today, added another synth part and rendered to the same format. The wav is 13 seconds shorter in duration...IOW it plays faster (but there is no change in pitch). Anyone have a clue what's going on? This has never happened before but I did upgrade from Win 7 to Win 10 a few months back...you reckon Win 10 is messing with codecs...or something? Thanks very much, Randy

Sounds like the sample rate has change Randy, I would check in both Windows Sound and SONAR that all agree on bit depth and sample rate. The recent anniversary update to Win 10 screwed with my sound card drivers on two machines, I had to reinstall them and then set them up again.

That was the first thing I suspected Wookie but they both show to be 24/48...I'll reinstall the Presonus drivers again and see if that makes a difference. Thanks bud, Randy

A mismatched sample rate would be accompanied by a pitch change, so I doubt that's the problem. To test the codec theory, re-import the file back into the original SONAR project and listen to it. If no difference can be heard between it and the original, then the issue probably lies with the external software you're using to play it back. When you import the file, make sure it matches up time-wise with the original tracks and then play both simultaneously. Aside from some possible phaseyness they should more or less conclude at the same place on the timeline. The explanation I'd eliminate first is whether the start and stop times were the same when the file was exported. For example, you may have excluded some lead-in time when you exported the file.

It's pretty hard to hear a pitch change between 44 and 48.
Also, if it's a soft synth only project, would there be a pitch change?

Good call (as usual) Dave...when importing back into the Sonar project they are the same duration! When opening in Sony Vegas Pro (NLE) or VLC or Windows Media Player they are shorter in duration...any red flags here? The explanation I'd eliminate first is whether the start and stop times were the same when the file was exported. For example, you may have excluded some lead-in time when you exported the file. Yessir, I zoomed way in on the timeline (in Sony Vegas) and made sure they were synced at the first beat but within a few seconds it is off. Thanks very much, Randy

But all of the times I exported I made sure it was set to 24/48 wav...the same as my setting in Sony Vegas. Thanks very much, Randy
