color customization ain't stupid after all

In the past, every time I'd  see one of those I-want-color-customization threads I'd think jeez man who cares what it looks like as long as it's functional?
However I've recently discovered I need customization in order to be functional.
Anyway, I'd like to have my track background colors be the same for various types of instruments in TV (ie I want all my strings to be that turquoise color at the bottom) but I need those 5 tracks of strings in PRV to be different (they're all green).
If I select a different foreground color in PRV it changes the background color in TV...surely this is not expected behavior is it?
I'm new to trying to mess with this stuff so maybe I'm going about it wrong...I hope so.
Thanks very much,
Randy

I think changing the Track Forground colors in Preferences or Inspector/Track menu will affect the PRV note colors. Does here anyway. I didn't know you could change the colors from within PRV though.

It's an even bigger issue for people with color blindness issues.

It has ended up as a circumstance that leaves the people, that make fun of people that request that color customization be restored to SONAR, seem inconsiderate.

Randy, It's nice to see someone speak about it honestly.

It seems a shame Cakewalk crippled one its most appreciated features when it rolled out Sonar X and it's discouraging to think that Cakewalk may never restore the feature set to the capability SONAR users once enjoyed.

    best regards,

So it's not something I'm missing it's just broken...hopefully the code will be worked out to work in X2 soon.
I don't even need to pick what colors I like I just need to be able to determine what's what.
Actually I'd be happy for now if I didn't have to struggle so much with what colors in PRV (notes) match the PRV track pane...to look at something red for notes and the track pane is showing purple or something is very frustrating for me...and I'm not colorblind... seems it would be impossible for someone who is.

Again, check the Inspector Track menu Colors for those tracks. I set them all up in Preferences and then check the Use Track Colors box in the Inspector and they sync up fine for me.

    Thanks Steve,
I just had a quick look to see if I could find what/where you're talking about but couldn't.
I will delve into it later...I'm assuming you're talking about doing this in prefs/customization/display right?
    Thanks again,
    Randy

One thing I miss about Pro Tools is the color customization. It's so good to be able to look at your mixing console and have all the strips arranged by color. Visual customization is so common these days - even freeware programs have the ability to be customized and skinned - that it's a little disappointing that X2 fails in this regard. Color is an essential visual tool and enhances almost everything.

    In Customization/Preferences/Colors you get:

     "Audio Tracks xxxxxx Foreground"
     "MIDI Tracks xxxxxxx Forground"
     "Tracks xxxxxxx Background"

Ignore "MIDI Tracks xxxxxxx Background" as it does not apply to X2.

After setting these like you want, select any or all tracks in TV and go into the Inspector. Click the CLIP or TRACK tab at the top and make sure "Use Track Colors" is checked and that the color chips match your Pref settings.

Not sure, but you may need to close and reopen to set the changes.

Your PRV should now follow the TV.

By unchecking this box you can change a specific track without affecting the rest.

The process seems a little more complex than in previous Sonars but it does work... .

You can also import colorsets from version 8 and before to change some colors not accessible in X1 and 2.

Guys, if you really like color selection and theme changing, check out what DP8 is doing. Apparently they've been lurking around here awhile.

How hard would it be to just have an overlay that changes the color of the tracks?

This is what I've been doing in another program with color. I'd love to be able to do it in Sonar.

There is none. They match the Track colors in preferences.
