compression and V-vocal: what's the correct order
If I am going to use V-vocal to correct a few pitchy things on a vocal track and also apply compression, which should I do first and why? Thanks Rusty

There is no "correct way" to do it, but I'd try fixing the pitch and then compression.
https://soundcloud.com/a-pleasure-dome http://www.bnoir-film.com/ there came forth little children out of the city, and mocked him, and said unto him, Go up, thou bald head; go up, thou bald head. 24 And he turned back, and looked on them, and cursed them in the name of the Lord. And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them.

unless you're going to destructively "print" the compression then you HAVE to run compression after running v-vocal if you're doing compression inside sonar. I don't understand how you could run compression first.

I prefer to do all my edits (including pitch correction, trimming and volume automation) first, before adding any effects at all.

Thanks for the replies - I assumed v-vocal first and then compression/effects, but just wanted to verify.

The point is: You use V-Vocal first, and bounce it to track. So when you start compressing, you work on a plain audio track, without V-Vocal active.
SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre - Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc. The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.

This is a good practice unless you have any doubt about keeping the V-Vocal'd clip.
