computer info

my computer is hp with microsoft xp running. the soundcard is m-audio fasttrack (i think), or whatever the computer is equipped with. When I go into the system setup, m-audio fasttrack is what is pulled up. The interface is USB and is plugged into the front of the harddrive into the usb port and then the computer speakers are plugged into the interface box headphone input. I get sound from sample tracks of music creator. Then, when I plug in my guitar cable into the "guitar" marked spot on the interface box, the guitar is not being picked up by the software??? By the harddrive??? whichever, I'm getting no reading of my guitar. Am I making sense? The guys that sold me this said, "piece of cake, so easy" and so far, it just pisses me off.

Aw come on even a caveman can do it!!

Sample tracks are playing but no input, and you say the speakers are attached to the USB interface, hhhmmm ....... sounds to me like you need to make sure that the USB device is configured, when you go to options/audio it says m-audio USB devices as the in and output ?

When you say the guitar does not read do you mean it does not record (no wave file lines appear in the track) or make sound while recording (there are waves but no noise)?

Let's look at these issues and see where it leads us.
