computer monitor vs TV

I have a flat screen tv with a vga in.  I occasionally plug my lap top vga out into it. It seems to work fine.  As prices for flat screen lcd tvs keep going down, my question is why not just buy a tv instead of a computer monitor?

The only advantage that a computer monitor has is that a monitor could give you a higher resolution. A TV will pretty much only go up to 1920x1080.

This is not the same issue but ...on a related note....

I'm in the security biz and the issue here with CCTV (camera systems) is the flat screen monitors are very expensive and have lower resolution than the old bulky TV style monitors. Everyone is liking the space and weight savings so they seem to be the way to go. However, the resolution is crappy unless you really want to lay down some serious money.

Just out of curiosity, I picked up a hi-def TV from a local big box retailer. This model had the RCA video input on it and with a buck for an adapter, I was able to send the video into the TV. The customer and I both love the resolution.

The downside is, the TV is not designed to be on 24/7 so I instructed the customer to turn it off when not viewing his cameras.

Interesting.  I would think that one wouldn't need the ultra high resolution for running sonar or music software.
Good point about not leaving it on.

I'm running 2 monitors at 1920x1200 each, and it's still not enough pixels :)

Hello... it's all has to do with the distance between each dot or the pixel pitch... a computer monitor is typically 0.28mm or better and a TV monitor is  0.45mm... thus up close the TV monitor will look grainier... also TV monitors can align rows of  those pixels horizontally and vertically, but a computer monitor will offset rows of them horizontally and vertically... giving you visually better curves and circles... and of course as others stated... you can get more pixels than just 1920 x 1080 with a computer monitor... which equates to a larger work area.

The computer screen is a device used to display computer generated images. There are only two types of computer monitors, computer monitors LCD and CRT monitors. Television is one of the best forms of entertainment. It is definitely one of the most common electronic gadgets in our homes.

The monitor is better for many reasons, of not talking about an expensive high-end television. The reason above all is that the screens are designed so that the computer takes care of the checks for color only exception to this is a tv HDMI CEC. LCD monitors are also designed to better meet the large amount of motion in a short time, the TV begins to approach the performance in this context that the monitors have received for decades.

There are very huge difference betweeen computer monitor and television. Like the best advantage of television is a computer monitor is a one of the best monitor to see any images, movies and many more. The television is also best with a wide screen 1920x1080 because its use is only for watching, not use in equal to computer.
