condensor mic for raspy vocals....

Im curious what people think here are good for a vocalist with a raspy tone....in the vein of John Lennon (think twist and shout), Liam Gallagher and Rod Stewart...Ya know that high end where it sort of crackles...Im willing spend 500-1000 dollars on a nice condensor for a vocal mic in general..let me know what you think..thank you

I don't think the mic will make any difference. Not sure what caused that sound for them it might have been a gain stage that caused overdrive or tape saturation. You might even be able to duplicate that with an amp sim plugin. Clone the vocal track and use an amp sim to overdrive one of them and blend to taste.
