Frontier Design did the FireWire units; FW1884 1802. Does Tascam make a USB controller?

don't know, just thinking that it was an (obvious?) opportunity to add some extra "want" to sonar, given that they're under the same umbrella, and getting bored and tired of the ongoing who/why/what so thought i might start some different-but-the-same discussion... it's been posted that tascam already had the steinberg lite-version-distro agreement so could've been another way to puff sonar

While it is complete speculation on my part what I think is Tascam put out the FW1884 to be a univeral controller and I know someone who had one using it with Sonar until one day in haste he plugged in the Firewire connector backwards, breaking it. Super expensive to fix.

They (Tascam) already had a line of all in one ‘portastudios’ which in more recent times include CMOS stompbox and amp simulators and as well an internal drum machine. Those products were great for some people while the 8 channel D-88 and D-98s were for others to track to. Those lead to the further release of the X48 units and they still make the current unit which is a 1ru box that captures 64 tracks to HDD or whatever is inside them.

...but my understanding is that the FW-1884 was more Frontier Design Group's baby.

    Me 2!
Bought mine approx 4 yrs ago for peanuts, and still going strong.
    The SONAR integration is great
Not THAT impressed with it in Mackie mode, though..
    All the best.

I have a friend that has one of those, but he never figured it out (so far).
He's using a Mac and Logic, so not sure if I can be of any help, as I've never owned neither.
Did you ever try it on a Mac?
    All the best.
