couple of questions
One question is: if I play a drum track, or even the click track, my playing on the instrument is a second ahead of the music coming out on the headphones, I can't get the two in sync. How can I do that? Question two: How do I go about using my keyboard for the drum set or to use the sounds off of the cakewalk sound center? I have a Casio CTK-2100 and my guitar is a jackson. I was using a digitech RxP400 with my Protracks but I thought that the Music Creator 5 would be better, and I know it would be if I could figure it out. My microphone output on my computer seems to max out the volume no matter what I do, many things to figure out here. I would appreciate any help I can get. Thanks Dan

Welcome Dan, Sounds like latency. A common issue when using a quality recording package like MC5 on a factory sound card. It might be possible to lower it some using the latency slider. But you will never get rid of it until you get a dedicated USB interface (soundcard).... The problem is the factory card can not process the midi data in real time and it ends up being delayed by a noticeable amount. You can set up TTS or another synth to receive midi data on channel 10,,, the default drum channel. See my web site on how to set up TTS as a drum set. To get SoundCenter working.... insert a synth, and choose Sound center from the list of available choices. If it's not there in the list, let us know. We'll tell you how to add it . Back to the soundcard for a minute. Some people can get the factory card working well enough with audio, but with midi, it's best to consider an upgrade to an external USB interface. That will solve the latency issue and let you record with relative ease. Also, understand that MC5 is not a toy, It is a full featured recording platform that will allow you to record some amazing stuff. All my music is recorded on the version before MC5..... MC4. It has a learning curve, so take your time, and do one thing at a time..... stick with it.

OPTIONS>AUDIO but moving the slider with the onboard soundcard is not likely to give you good results. if you get the latency down to an acceptable level, you're likely going to have popping, clicking, stuttering and dropout. if you have WASAPI driver mode available, try that. OPTIONS>AUDIO>DRIVER MODE = WASAPI ; CLICK APPLY if youdon't have it available, then you could google, download and install ASIO4ALL, then change to ASIO mode. that will get you going until you can get a recording soundcard. check my website for soundcard recommendations.

Protracks was developed using an older version of Cakewalk before the addition of VST. It looks alot like MC2003 to me. Not a bad old sequencer, but not up to the feature list of MC5. The best way to handle latency like this is to have all sound happen at the right place, by monitoring the existing tracks and the new tracks in the same location. This requires a true recording interface to be made easy. It can be done with a small mixer attached to the sound card, but it is better if the sound card is a after market product with a software mixing console that compensates for all this. If you will tells your computer specs, and sound card type, and all that stuff the good folks here will be able to help sort it out a bit better.

My microphone output on my computer seems to max out the volume no matter what I do I've heard of a mic input, but not an output. I assume you mean the speaker output? Adjust the output level in the track, or in a bus and with the Windows mixer. If you meant mic input, that can also be set in the Windows mixer. Welcome to the forum.

Gateway Processor: AMD Athlon II Dual Core M300 2.00GHz RAM: 4.00 3.75 Usable 64-Bit OS Conexant High Definition Audio It does have SPDIF Interface listed as ready, but not listed as default. I've heard of a mic input, but not an output. I assume you mean the speaker output? To save me confusing things more, what I meant was, when I plug in an instrument straight into the microphone input per the direction no matter what volume I adjust in stays at the peak volume and above. let us know how it is going. I did get the guitar to work, but I had to go through the Digitech RPx400, but it did work fine, and I adjusted the latency. I had to adjust several times to get it best point without "sticking". How do you use the keyboard to play the instruments and the drum kit on the Music Source Creator.

when I plug in an instrument straight into the microphone input per the direction no matter what volume I adjust in stays at the peak volume and above. Okay. If you don't have a line-in jack, open the Windows mixer and turn off the mic pre-amp. Do that by unchecking mic and checking line-in. Then adjust the input level there. "How do you use the keyboard to play the instruments and the drum kit on the Music Source Creator." By using a MIDI keyboard, you can input MIDI data to a MIDI track. If you insert a software synthesizer like TTS-1, Sound Center or Studio Instruments Drums and set the output of the MIDI track you're playing into to that soft synth. You can play the synth in real time, but with your sound card, the latency may be terrible. Try it. You won't be recording the sound you hear, though; you'll only be recording the MIDI data. You can also enter MIDI data in a track with your mouse in either the Piano Roll view (PRV) or Staff view.

The built in sound card will always be a problem. You can get marginal results, but it will be plagued with small issues. These type sound chip systems are designed for playing Mp3s, CDs, and internet midi stuff. To really record and make it right the heart and soul of a home studio is the recording interface or sound card. There are dozens of options, and some that are not to expensive Take a look at some of these and then ask some questions. http://pro-audio.musician...erals/audio-interfaces

Those are nice, but I'm afraid I am budgetless at this time. Maybe in the future, but for now I'll have to do my best to work with what I have :(

You can use factory cards OK with audio tracks.

ok - then what is your sampling rate on your project and what is the sampling rate on the US122L? sampling rate mismatch will cause sync problems. set them both to 44100Hz - that's what you need it at for exporting to wave and mp3 anyway.

but also check your tascam software - it might be locked at 48kHz and if MC's in 44.1kHz then that will cause the problem.
