Got GTA, and a good comp with some adjusting.
Wanted to drop a pearl that should be in the toolkit.
I squash the hell out of the initial guitar signal. Next in line for me is a necessary noise gate before some overdrive unit. Makes for pure smooth overdrive but raises the battle with noise. Using Nomand's Liquid Gate after the comp. Best compromise I found so far.
Next problem like GTA is that in extreme settings, there is not enough makeup drive to load the downstream fuzz box.
If you don't got it, you should. It's free and a beautiful, transparent stereo gain control. Sonalksis Free G.
https://www.sonalksis.com/freeg.htm Allows a makeup boost without coloring anything if the comp falls short. CPU friendly. Application is after a good compressor without sufficient makeup gain. Ideal chain would be the comp, into Free G, into a noise gate, into fuzz box, into whatever else.
Ancient product, but haven't seen anyone do better.
